{"id":10256,"date":"2019-05-05T16:26:11","date_gmt":"2019-05-05T19:26:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=10256"},"modified":"2019-05-05T16:26:11","modified_gmt":"2019-05-05T19:26:11","slug":"womenactive-ns-recognizes-leaders-in-promoting-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=10256","title":{"rendered":"WomenActive-NS recognizes leaders in promoting women"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>HALIFAX:<\/strong> Nova Scotia women and girls were celebrated at the fourth annual WomenActive-NS Trendsetter Awards on April 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At\n the sold-out event, a fundraiser for WomenActive-NS and held at The \nWestin in Downtown Halifax, Trendsetters that promote meaningful active \nliving experiences and leadership opportunities that enrich the lives of\n females across the province were recognized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were eight awards handed out by Emcee Portia Clark, a co-host of CBC Information Morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/file1-159.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10257\"\/><figcaption>Portia Clark from CBC\u2019s Information Morning was the host. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Program\n Groundbreaker Award &#8211; The Valley Wild Female Hockey Association had a \nfirst full female novice hockey team this year, building their program \nup and thus making them a Groundbreaker Trendsetter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carley Glode was also a recipient of this award for her amazing contribution to gender equity in NS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Program Trendsetter &#8211; Natalie d\u2019Entremont is the recipient for the 2019 award; she\u2019s making waves in gender equity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Program Trendsetter &#8211; Lezlie Carol States continues to inspire and thus that helped earn her recognition as a Trendsetter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shannon Read was recognized as a Program Trendsetter for her amazing work with the Keji Multisport Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leadership Trendsetter &#8211; Kerry Copeland, who\u2019s amazing leadership has helped build the Kids Run Club to what it is today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/file3-44.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10259\"\/><figcaption>Musician Zamani was the special performer at the fourth annual Trendsetter Awards. (Submitted photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Pat\n Healey from The Laker was recognized as the Media Trendsetter for his \ncontinuous coverage of women and girls in the Fall River\/Windsor \nJunction area and their accomplishments right from junior high on \nthrough to post-secondary in their chosen sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Youth Trendsetter\n Award &#8211; Brianna Hiltz, who is a highly engaged and committed youth who \nmanages to do various tasks that makes things better for women and \ngirls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Respected canoe\/kayaker Ann Dodge, a former Fall Resident, \nearned the Dr. Carolyn Savoy Trailblazer Award for her tremendous \naccomplishments as a Trailblazer for gender equity in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The WomenActive Trendsetter Awards is a celebration and a fundraiser for WomenActive-NS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WomenActive-NS\n advocates, educates, collaborates, and promotes meaningful active \nliving experiences and leadership opportunities to enrich the lives of \nall women and girls in Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HALIFAX: Nova Scotia women and girls were celebrated at the fourth annual WomenActive-NS Trendsetter Awards on April 27.
