Dairy Queen is coming to Fall River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peggy Rust confirmed to <em>The Laker<\/em>  on May 27 that the well-known fast food restaurant will be calling the  community home beginning on March 1, 2020. It will be located in the  green space next to Tim Hortons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Construction on the store, \nwhich will be approximately 2,600 square feet, is estimated to begin \nsome time in August. Crombie is doing the build. The store will be \ncomplete with a drive-thru and a patio for eating outside like many \nother DQ restaurants. It will be handed over to Rust in the fall to get \nit ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt seems like a long ways off, but it\u2019s actually not,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to go by very quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dairy Queen will be looking to hire 45 people, said Rust who added that she has hired her two managers to help with the lead up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rust,\n whose husband Matthew is co-franchise with her and grew up in Fall \nRiver, said it\u2019s been a process a year-and-a-half in the making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s\n been a little bit longer, it takes time to negotiate leases and get the\n details all wrapped up,\u201d she said. \u201cDairy Queen Canada has been very \ngood to deal with. We\u2019re very excited about that cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She\n is hopeful that there is another spot within the Crombie property where\n the Christmas tree lighting can occur, because it\u2019s a great community \nevent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe park area where we will be will still be there,\u201d she \nsaid. \u201cI\u2019m just not sure how much room there will be after we\u2019re built. \nIt will still be accessible to residents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rust spoke about the employment impact. The family lives in East Hants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re  excited about being there and employing local people,\u201d she said.  \u201cObviously, with a business like Dairy Queen it involves employing a lot  of teens, so I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll get to know all of the kids that attend  Lockview High very well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said there has been a lot of great feedback she\u2019s heard through her husbands family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s\n quite funny because they\u2019re hearing it from all kinds of people not \nknowing it\u2019s there family that\u2019s opening it,\u201d said Rust, the store\u2019s \nowner\/operator. \u201cThey\u2019re hearing a lot of unsolicited comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople are quite excited, which makes me very happy.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Construction of Dairy Queen set for August; to open March 1, 2020 FALL RIVER: The rumours are true.
