{"id":10437,"date":"2019-06-06T17:21:50","date_gmt":"2019-06-06T20:21:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=10437"},"modified":"2019-06-06T17:21:50","modified_gmt":"2019-06-06T20:21:50","slug":"archibald-snags-track-hardware-sets-new-provincial-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=10437","title":{"rendered":"Archibald snags track hardware, sets new provincial record"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong><em> GPV, LHS athletes grab armful of awards at track provincials <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER: <\/strong>Mya Archibald has etched her name into the NSSAF Track and Field record books, setting a new provincial record in long jump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archibald\n grabbed three gold medals\u2014100 metre; long jump; and high jump; and \nteamed with Fiona Day; Ryann Surette; and Julie Adamson for bronze in \nthe 4&#215;100 metre race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before Archibald\u2019s jump, the old junior girls provincial record in long jump had not been touched since it was set in 1985.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\n didn\u2019t even know I had set a new record,\u201d she said on June 3. \u201cWhen I \nfirst jumped it they kept measuring it so many times. And then they \ncalled it and every one cheered. Mr. Hanlon came over and told me I beat\n the record by one centimetre.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archibald, who also plays soccer, said the outdoors suits her just right. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\n really love being at the track and being outside,\u201d she said. \u201cEveryone \nis really nice. Even with just two of us left in the high jump, the \nother girl gave me a complement that I was doing well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Narrowing down her favourite track and field sport\u2014that\u2019s a tough one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\n like the high jump because of the adrenaline rush, but the 100 metre I \nlike because its running and the long jump is just so chill,\u201d said \nArchibald, a Grade 8 student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said she was just happy to be at provincials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI never expected any of this,\u201d she said. \u201cI just had a lot of fun. It was really awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archibald\n said she is inspired by her sisters best friend Abbi Gaudry, who she \nlooks up to her because she\u2019s gone to nationals. She is coached by Bella\n Willett of Waverley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe won a few awards when she was my age,\u201d said Archibald, who has qualified for Legion nationals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/61801863_10162342404195001_7033704817801297920_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10439\"\/><figcaption>Abbi Gaudry from LHS (middle) with gold. (Submitted photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For  Lockview High athletes at the provincials, Riley Adamson-Smith was  fourth in the 100 metre dash; Lauren Ferguson; Emma Archibald; Abbi  Gaudry; and Jill Langille teamed to win the 4&#215;100 metre relay, setting a  new provincial record of 51.34 (they came second in the 4&#215;400 metre  relay); Gaudry was first in 80 metre hurdles; first in long jump; third  in javelin; and fourth in high jump. Ferguson was fourth in 200 metres  and competed in 400 metres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isabelle Gonsalves was second in 4x400m relay along side Abbi Gaudry, Emma Archibald, and Lauren Fergusson ; Claire Langille snagged second in  100 metres; second in 200 metres; and second in 400 metres; Braden  Marshall came home sixth in 100m hurdles, and competed in long jump;  Ethan Price finished sixth in 400 metres; while Alex Logan, Joey Horne,  Riley Adamson Simms, and Matthew Whitehead were third in the boys 4x 100  metre race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/61897953_10156698990847763_799834038499016704_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10441\"\/><figcaption>The GPV boys 4&#215;400 metres team won gold at provincials. She also placed first in the 3,000m with a time of 10:19.19 \njust missing the Provincial Record by less than half a second.
