{"id":10509,"date":"2019-06-24T23:13:54","date_gmt":"2019-06-25T02:13:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=10509"},"modified":"2019-06-24T23:13:54","modified_gmt":"2019-06-25T02:13:54","slug":"man-placed-on-house-arrest-in-grand-lake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=10509","title":{"rendered":"Man placed on house arrest in Grand Lake"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>GRAND LAKE: <\/strong>A\n Halifax man has been placed on house arrest at his sisters home in \nGrand Lake after being granted bail on pimping-related charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duncan  Robertson Wright, 46, has been in custody for two years awaiting trial  on the charges, which include human trafficking. According to<strong><em> the  Halifax Herald<\/em><\/strong>, he applied for bail in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in  Halifax, He\u2019s scheduled to stand trial in September on the charges,  which involve five girls or young women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a decision on June 20,\n Justice Josh Arnold released Wright on a $28,000 recognizance with \nthree sureties \u2013 his father, sister and her husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judge \nplaced Wright on house arrest at his sister\u2019s home on Hartland Drive in \nGrand Lake and ordered him to report to Halifax Regional Police by phone\n every Friday and deposit his passport with the lead investigator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\n can only leave the house for medical emergencies and appointments or \nlegal commitments, provided that he\u2019s escorted by a surety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the\n Herald article, it said Arnold prohibited Wright from being in the \ncompany of anyone under 18 unless a surety is present and from attending\n any places where there are likely to be children under 16, except with a\n surety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judge also said Wright cannot have any contact with \nthe five alleged victims or their family members and is not allowed to \nassociate with anyone known to be involved in the sex trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \njudge also prohibited Wright from consuming alcohol or drugs, possessing\n weapons, having a cellphone, pager, laptop computer or any other device\n capable of connecting to the internet, and using email, texts or any \nother form of electronic messaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wright has been in custody \nsince April 2017, when he was arrested on 22 charges that at first \ninvolved three teenage girls.
