{"id":11996,"date":"2019-07-17T08:00:21","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T11:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=11996"},"modified":"2019-07-17T08:00:21","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T11:00:21","slug":"community-thanked-for-help-in-bringing-sandals-the-dog-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=11996","title":{"rendered":"Community thanked for help in bringing Sandals the dog home"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER: <\/strong>The\n look of relief on Ross and Teresa Smith\u2019s face says all that needs to \nbe said about the return of their beloved 10-month-old pet dog Sandals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n beagle escaped from her harness on June 27 and ran down Cedarwood Court\n towards Foster and then made the turn up to Martyn Drive. That set off a\n frantic search, especially with Canada Day and impending fireworks \naround the corner. She was also out wandering the area in the wet \nweather that hit the region over several days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As soon as they \nposted about Sandals going missing, their community in Fall River \nVillage came to their aid in spreading word on the missing dog and soon \nstrangers and neighbours they had never met or knew were helping in \ntheir search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt means a lot to us that the community came out \nand helped us in our search,\u201d said Teresa. \u201cIt was overwhelming. People \nwho we didn\u2019t even know were helping us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe heard from a lot of people who saw the posters from Waverley to Lantz,\u201d added Ross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sandals family says Thanks!\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XONfTbUD_bM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>The family says Thank you!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There\n was a woman who cooked up some hamburger and left it at the end of \nIngram Drive and went back and checked on it an hour later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was gone when she went back,\u201d said Teresa. \u201cJust for someone to take the time to do that was amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teresa said it was nice to see people dropping everything to find their puppy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think she would be back home without the help of everyone searching for her,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sandals was eventually found on July 2 at about 5:30 p.m. after she was spotted running along a pathway off Canterbury Drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRoss\n and our son, Colton, went into the woods at one end of the trail and I \nentered where Sandals was last seen,\u201d said Teresa. \u201cI was only in a \nshort distance when I spotted Sandals as she tore through the bush. I \ncame face-to-face with Sandals as I was on the trail, and said \u2018treat\u2019 \nto her and showed her her toy, which was enough time for me to get the \ncollar around and on her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the rescue, Sandals has had a \nbath, getting lots of food and cuddles, and most importantly sleeping \nsoundly back under the safe roof of her human owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do the Smith\u2019s have any idea where their beloved family pet went?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo we don\u2019t,\u201d said Teresa. \u201cI\u2019m sure if those eyes could talk, she would be able to tell us all about her adventures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When <em>The Laker<\/em>\n posed that question to Sandals, all the four-legged pup would give is \nlicks to the tape recorder and Reporter Pat Healey\u2019s very white legs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FALL RIVER: The look of relief on Ross and Teresa Smith\u2019s face says all that needs to be said about the return of their beloved 10-month-old pet dog Sandals.
