{"id":12036,"date":"2019-07-18T07:00:57","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T10:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=12036"},"modified":"2019-07-18T07:00:57","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T10:00:57","slug":"copley-eager-to-let-residents-know-the-411-on-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=12036","title":{"rendered":"Copley eager to let residents know the 411 on him"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>BEAVER BANK: <\/strong>Kevin\n Copley\u2019s surge to being the Conservative candidate for the upcoming \nfederal election in Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook is not exactly what \nthe Beaver Bank father of three had planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Copley simply signed \nup to be a member of the party, led by Andrew Scheer, because he was \ndisappointed \u201cwith the direction Canada was headed under the current \ngovernment.\u201d He joined the federal Conservatives two years into the \nmandate just to help out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOnce I started going to our local \nriding association meetings, meeting people who were of the same \nopinion,\u201d said Copley in an interview at Good Day Cafe. \u201cA group of them\n said they would support me if I put my name forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter a lot\n of encouragement from this group of people, and with the support of my \nwife, I decided I would seek the nomination for the riding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the nomination meeting, Copley was selected as the winner after a tie-breaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said if elected, he sees challenges faces the riding the same way he looks at any riding across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s\n more of a holistic view of what\u2019s happening in Canada,\u201d he said. \u201cIt \nstarts from looking at the 2015 election and looking at the promises \nmade then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis Liberal government is a government that promised \neverything and the kitchen sink to Canadians. They haven\u2019t been able to \ndeliver on many of those promises. There\u2019s some pretty big misses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Copley said Canadians expect politicians to own up to promises they make, and the Trudeau government hasn\u2019t done that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\n said a Conservative government can really bring life back to the riding\n of Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook if elected in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI \nbelieve our party can bring Canada back to balance, and ending that \nconstant cycle of promising everyone the world and not delivering on \nthose promises,\u201d said Copley, who came a distant third to Lisa Blackburn\n in the 2016 HRM municipal election. \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are Copley\u2019s top three\n issues in the riding? High taxes and decreasing those to make life more\n affordable for Canadians; look at and work with municipal and \nprovincial governments to invest in infrastructure like mass transit \nopportunities; and the fisheries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Copley said the Liberals are \ntrying to use something they can campaign on because they can\u2019t stand on\n their own record, so they\u2019re trying to paint Scheer as bad for Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs\n an election tactic they will start to sow fear and doubt in Canadians \nminds and hope they will buy into it,\u201d he said. \u201cAndrew Scheer is a \nyoung fella just like me. We both have a lot of skin in the game and \nwant a strong future for our children in Canada.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has been going door-to-door through the riding and is hearing a lot of feedback from those he\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\n has been great feedback from those I am talking with,\u201d said Copley. \n\u201cPeople are open to hear from me.
