In early 2019 she returned home from a \ncompetition with the title as a national champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the recent \nmatch against fellow Beaver Banker and Citadel Boxing\u2019s Sierra \nEshouzadeh, Cowal was able to pick up the victory. She fights out of the\n Tribal Boxing Club in Dartmouth headed up by Bridget Stevens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSierra\n had a lot more experience than me and a bit heavier, but I gained the \nwin which made all my sacrifices like training instead of partying with \nfriends and stuff worth it,\u201d said Cowal, a Lockview High student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stevens\n is a well known world class coach and trains amateurs, professional \nboxers and UFC fighters. That resume alone would seem to make her a \ntough cookie\u2014and that\u2019s just fine with Cowal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s\n a tough coach, she taught me to be physically and mentally stronger, \nshe treats all her students the same and doesn\u2019t pick favorites,\u201d said \nCowal. \u201cThe gym is a very positive environment and safe space for \neveryone. Bridget is like a second Mom to me and the club is my boxing \nfamily.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cowal had a message for other young girls out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\n want them to know that you can overcome obstacles in your life by \nbelieving in yourself and always being your personal best, not someone \nelse\u2019s best but your best,\u201d she said. \u201cNever say you can\u2019t do something \nand never let anyone tell you that you can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BEAVER BANK: A female boxer from Beaver Bank showcased why she\u2019s a provincial and national champion in a recent match before home fans.
