Windsor Junction\u2019s Ada and Jane Tuttle add their name to rare list of sisters umpiring same game together<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WAVERLEY: <\/strong>As the first pitch was thrown \u2014 a strike \u2014 in a Mosquito baseball game between two LWF Baseball teams, history was made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n July 22 game, played between the LWF Raiders and LWF Braves at the Doug\n Clarke Memorial Sports Field behind the Waverley Legion, marked the \nfirst time in the LWF Baseball Association\u2014and what is thought to be \njust the second time across the province in Baseball N.S. play\u2014that two \nsisters were the ones umpiring the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ada and Jane Tuttle are no strangers to the ball fields, with Ada a seasoned veteran of umpiring at just 15-years-old and Jane in her second year after having played the sport. They had never had been scheduled to work the same game\u2014that is until July 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Laker<\/strong><\/em> caught up to the two before they hit the field and called the big game for some comments on the game ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s\n still just another regular game,\u201d said Ada, who also made history with \nKenzie Whitford a few years earlier when they became the first girls in \nLWF Baseball to umpire a game in Grand Lake. She thought the same about \nthat game when interviewed at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s exciting,\u201d added Jane. \u201cIt\u2019s my first game at this level (mosquito) as a base umpire.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jane\n and Ada both hope that other young girls see them out on the field and \nget curious about what they\u2019re doing. With a current shortage of \numpires, now is the perfect time to sign-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re hoping to encourage more girls to go into umpiring,\u201d said Ada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jane became involved in umpiring because Ada was doing it and was enjoying doing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wanted to try something new and still be involved in the baseball community,\u201d said Jane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She admitted to being nervous going into this game with Ada because of getting calls wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut it happens, we all make mistakes and miss calls,\u201d Jane said confidently. \u201cIt\u2019s a game. It\u2019s not the end of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any advice for younger sister Jane as she prepared for this game?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWatch the force plays and that puddle at second base for some reason, keep an eye on that,\u201d said Ada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If there\u2019s one thing the two would both like to see is sisters on the field doing more games as umpires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
