{"id":12090,"date":"2019-07-24T17:10:16","date_gmt":"2019-07-24T20:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=12090"},"modified":"2019-07-24T17:10:16","modified_gmt":"2019-07-24T20:10:16","slug":"driver-charged-after-collision-with-cyclist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=12090","title":{"rendered":"Driver charged after collision with cyclist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>WAVERLEY: <\/strong>A\n 46-year-old Middle Sackville man has been charged with failing to obey \nthe one-metre rule for cyclists following a vehicle-bicycle collision on\n Wednesday morning July 24 in Waverley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just before 8 a.m.,  Halifax District RCMP, EHS, and Station 41 (Waverley) and Station 45  (Fall River) were paged to the collision between the cyclist and pick-up  truck at Waverley Road and Rocky Lake Drive. The area is next to the  Irving, and was the site of motorcyclist-vehicle collision just a few  days ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cpl. Lisa Croteau, spokeswoman with Halifax District \nRCMP, said the 63-year-old male cyclist from Dartmouth was taken to \nhospital by EHS with non-life threatening injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The driver of \nthe truck, a 46-year-old man from Middle Sackville, was charged with \nVehicle Passing a Bicycle while Travelling on Right When There is Less \nthan one Metre between the Vehicle and Cyclist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police are \nreminding motorists that in Nova Scotia, there is a one-metre rule that \nrequires drivers to leave one metre between their vehicle and a cyclist \nwhen driving beside or passing a cyclist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motorists can also help \nkeep all road users safe by watching for cyclists (especially at \nintersections) and checking for cyclists before opening vehicle doors \nand pulling onto the roadway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WAVERLEY: A 46-year-old Middle Sackville man has been charged with failing to obey the one-metre rule for cyclists following a vehicle-bicycle collision on Wednesday morning July 24 in Waverley.
