{"id":12180,"date":"2019-08-15T01:43:33","date_gmt":"2019-08-15T04:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=12180"},"modified":"2019-08-15T01:43:33","modified_gmt":"2019-08-15T04:43:33","slug":"morneau-tours-riding-with-samson-stops-by-cheema","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=12180","title":{"rendered":"Morneau tours riding with Samson, stops by Cheema"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>WAVERLEY:<\/strong>\n Finance Minister Bill Morneau may not have come bearing a cheque, but \nwhat he came away with from his visit to Cheema Aquatic Club was what \ntheir future expansion plans look like, ones that would likely involve \nfederal infrastructure funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morneau took a tour of the \nWaverley-based facility with MP Darrell Samson as he paid a visit to \nSackville-Preston-Chezzetcook on Aug. 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat I\u2019m trying to do  is get out across the country, first and foremost to understand  economically what\u2019s going on across Canada,\u201d said Morneau in explaining  his visit to the riding. \u201cBut also to recognize we need to be out  talking to constituents, understanding their individual concerns so we  can craft not only good policy, but a good campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/092-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12187\"\/><figcaption>Finance Minister Bill Morneau and MP Darrell Samson stand alongside four girls before they head out on the water to do some K4 practicing on Aug. 13 at Cheema in Waverley. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He was impressed to see so many young children involved in the camp at Cheema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to see so many kids engaged not only here kayaking, but in physical fitness,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s really encouraging.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samson said it was great to have Morneau make a summer stop by in his riding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s  extremely important that we have him here because every time I\u2019m  speaking to him in Ottawa about all the great things happening here, and  where we need more support,\u201d he said, \u201conce he\u2019s here on the ground and  sees what is happening then he has a better idea and can make decisions  using that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/170-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12186\"\/><figcaption>Finance Minister Bill Morneau and MP Darrell Samson stand with two of the Canada Summer Job students at Sack-a-Wa Canoe Club. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Morneau said the Liberals will be focused in their \nmessaging in the lead-up to the federal election in October, looking for\n a second mandate from Canadians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to be focused on  making sure Canadians can deal with challenges and affordability,\u201d said  Morneau. \u201cWe know it\u2019s great to see the young people out here today, but  it costs money. Samson termed the visit like a person going \nto the bank, they must have a conversation with the banker first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe  first step in considering anything is understanding, so seeing how  significant this facility is for so many young people is really  helpful,\u201d said Morneau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides the Cheema tour, Morneau joined  Samson and staff at Kaisers  Subs on Sackville Drive in Lower Sackville; a  stop by Sack-A-WA Canoe  Club to check out their clubhouse development  progress, which received  federal support; and a visit to Eastern Passage  to end the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/120-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12184\"\/><figcaption>Kaisers Subs in Lower Sackville was a must stop for MP Darrell Samson with Finance Minister Bill Morneau in town on Aug. 13.
