{"id":12296,"date":"2019-08-22T00:50:35","date_gmt":"2019-08-22T03:50:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=12296"},"modified":"2019-08-22T00:50:35","modified_gmt":"2019-08-22T03:50:35","slug":"crosswalk-upgrades-coming-in-grand-lake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=12296","title":{"rendered":"Crosswalk upgrades coming in Grand Lake"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>GRAND LAKE: <\/strong>The crosswalk adjacent to the playground\n and park in Grand Lake is about to get some much needed upgrades aimed \nat making it safer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an email to resident Lisa Patter, and \nposted to the Grand Lake\/Oakfield Community Facebook page, provincial \nTransportation and Infrastructure Renewal (TIR) officials informed \nPatter that after a review by the District Traffic supervisor for \ncentral district, \u201csignificant improvements\u201d including light\/sign \nassemblies on each side of the crosswalk are warranted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patter \nsaid she\u2019s thrilled something is being done at last. She operates an \nafter school care\/summer camp program in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m \ngrateful for all of the support from MLA Bill Horne and the Minister of \nTransportation, and the Crosswalk Safety group,\u201d said Patter. \u201cIf they \nkept the cars at 70 kilometres per hour that be great, but we all know \nthe cars aren\u2019t going that. It\u2019s a busy road and there\u2019s a lot of \nchildren in this residential community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m grateful for the lights, grateful for the flags going in, but let\u2019s hope this is enough.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patter has worked on getting safety measures, such as crosswalk lights at the location, for approximately nine years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEstimates\n are currently being completed for this work,\u201d said Guy Deveau, on \nbehalf of Lloyd Hines, minister of Transportation and Infrastructure \nRenewal, in the email to Patter. \u201cUpon confirmation of funding for this \nproject, we can hopefully move forward with upgrades this fall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While\n the crosswalk issue is being rectified, the speed limit reduction from \n70 kilometres\/hour still will remain in place, as it was determined by \nTIR to be appropriate for that part of Highway 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patter said she will stay in touch with TIR regarding the speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had a lot of cooperation, let\u2019s keep together on this as team work and see where we go from here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GRAND LAKE: The crosswalk adjacent to the playground and park in Grand Lake is about to get some much needed upgrades aimed at making it safer.
