{"id":12299,"date":"2019-08-22T12:05:57","date_gmt":"2019-08-22T15:05:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=12299"},"modified":"2019-08-22T12:05:57","modified_gmt":"2019-08-22T15:05:57","slug":"chute-defends-double-waterskiing-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=12299","title":{"rendered":"Chute defends double waterskiing gold"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>WINDSOR JUNCTION: <\/strong>Local waterskiing athlete Olivia Chute continues to show consistency at a high level in national and international competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chute,\n a Windsor Junction product, grabbed two more gold medals as she did a \nyear ago at nationals. She appeared during Kids Day at Keloose with her \nmedals, showing them off to young fans in the community while signing \nautographs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really happy to show that my hard has paid off to\n get the two gold again,\u201d said Chute just before leaving the WJCC for a \npractice in Beaver Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was able to get the most trick points  and get by the most buoys in slalom out of all the Under-17 girls.  Chute is ranked as the fifth best woman trick skier in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt means a lot to be able to do this and have fun while doing it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\n year is a relatively \u201ceasy\u201d year as there\u2019s not as many big \ncompetitions. That happened last year, and will again next year as she \naims to represent her country on the international stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis \nyear has been one that I\u2019m using to improve my scores because I want to \nattend the junior worlds again,\u201d said Chute. \u201cIn the four tournaments \nI\u2019ve been in this year, I have set personal bests in scores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s exciting to learn new tricks and land them in my runs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She hopes to one day don the Maple Leaf at the world championships, which were held this past week in Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chute\n is appreciative of everyone on Third Lake and in the community \nsupporting her. She spoke of the travel camps, some which were held in \nWindsor Junction and Fletchers Lake. Some of the kids <em>The Laker<\/em> spoke to said they were inspired by Chute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\n means a lot to be that inspiration and ambassador for the sport here in\n N.S.,\u201d said Chute. \u201cIt\u2019s nice to see the eager new faces joining the \nsport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As she was at Keloose, many young girls came over to see her and talk to her, some saying she\u2019s a role model to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s\n really nice to see the kids out here and tell some of them [about my \nsport] who don\u2019t know what waterskiing is all about,\u201d she said smiling \nwidely. \u201cIt reminds me of how cool this sport really is and how much I \nlove it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WINDSOR JUNCTION: Local waterskiing athlete Olivia Chute continues to show consistency at a high level in national and international competitions.
