{"id":12302,"date":"2019-08-22T13:40:07","date_gmt":"2019-08-22T16:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=12302"},"modified":"2019-08-22T13:40:07","modified_gmt":"2019-08-22T16:40:07","slug":"updated-community-mailboxes-reopened-delivery-winley-dr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=12302","title":{"rendered":"UPDATED: Community mailboxes reopened for delivery on Winley Dr."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align:left\"><strong>WINDSOR JUNCTION: <\/strong>Residents of a subdivision in Fall  River Village were forced to travel almost 40 minutes round-trip to get  their mail recently after their community mailboxes was deemed unsafe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canada\n Post taped off and blocked access to the community mailbox on Winley \nDrive, leaving a notice to residents that due to the structure being \ndeemed unsafe they would have to pickup their mail in Enfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many\n were not happy at having to drive well outside their community to get \ntheir mail, and work began between resident Jay Cameron and Canada Post \nto see if the mail could be redirected to either the postal outlet at \nShoppers in Fall River or the post office in Waverley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MP\n Darrell Samson was also made aware and began working to see what he \ncould do, given Canada Post is a federal government entity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a \nletter to residents, Samson said the gazebo covering the community \nmailboxes was built some 25 years ago by a now defunct homeowners \nassociation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlthough Canada Post does not own the structure, \nthey have asked for an emergency order to remove it so they can resume \nmail delivery as soon as possible,\u201d said Samson in the letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said Canada Post was going to remove the structure at its own cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlthough\n they will not build a new gazebo, the community may wish to undertake \nthat in the future,\u201d he said. \u201cCanada Post has also advised us that new \nmailboxes with improved parcel compartments are planned for the fall of \nthis year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samson is also impacted by the stoppage of mail delivery at the location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI certainly understand the inconvenience and am working to get it resolved as quickly as possible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The structure was down by the end of day Aug. 21, and has since been inspected.
