{"id":12323,"date":"2019-08-26T23:02:08","date_gmt":"2019-08-27T02:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=12323"},"modified":"2019-08-26T23:02:08","modified_gmt":"2019-08-27T02:02:08","slug":"lwf-girls-nab-inaugural-u12-baseball-silver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=12323","title":{"rendered":"LWF girls nab inaugural U12 baseball silver"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>ANTIGONISH: <\/strong>A\n team of female ball players from the LWF Baseball Association have \nbrought home a first silver medal from the all-girls U12 provincial \nchampionship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the final, LWF fell 13-9 to Oxford, a team they \nwere playing for a third consecutive game in an eight hour span. In the \nend the team just ran out of steam, losing 13-7 after five before trying\n to mount the comeback but falling short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the round-robin \nportion the team, with many Fall River\/Windsor Junction and area players\n on the roster, was 3-0 (won-loss). Oxford, who LWF faced in the final \nround robin game, was also 3-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The good girls defeated Oxford 13-5 on the backs of a six run sixth, finishing in first at 4-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/68817351_1209479889244906_7893518723129016320_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12324\"\/><figcaption>The LWF girls baseball team with their silver medals. (Submitted photos)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first championship game, the girls were losing 5-3 after five innings, but scored seven runs to make it 10-5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However,\n Oxford responded to squeeze out the 11-10 win, setting up the second \nchampionship game and their eventual gold-medal win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The LWF team \nwas sad by their loss, but smiles came on realizing their hard work and \nteam play led to a silver medal at the first-ever U12 all-girls \nprovincial championship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ANTIGONISH: A team of female ball players from the LWF Baseball Association have brought home a first silver medal from the all-girls U12 provincial championship.
