{"id":12466,"date":"2019-09-24T19:46:38","date_gmt":"2019-09-24T22:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=12466"},"modified":"2019-09-24T19:46:38","modified_gmt":"2019-09-24T22:46:38","slug":"speed-bumps-coming-for-some-fall-river-area-streets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=12466","title":{"rendered":"Speed bumps coming for some Fall River area streets"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>WINDSOR JUNCTION: <\/strong>HRM is cracking down on speeding \non several area residential streets in a pair of highly populated \nsubdivisions as part of traffic calming measures aimed at making them \nsafer for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winley Drive in Windsor Junction; Karels \nDrive; and Marantha Drive are among the streets where speed bumps will \nbe installed by HRM to reduce the speeding concerns many have expressed.\n It will create what is hoped to be safer streets for everyone, \nespecially those who walk on the streets with their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m\n pleased that staff agreed it was time to bring some traffic calming \nmeasures to some of these residential streets, specifically Winley and \nsurrounding area,\u201d said Councillor Steve Streatch. \u201cOver the past two \nyears, it had become quite evident to me residents were looking for \nrelief from some of the driving style and speed from traffic on their \nstreets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said he brought the concern to HRM staff some time  ago, but it was up to Halifax Traffic Authority to see that certain  criteria was met before they approved the installation of these traffic  calming measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/file2-200-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12468\"\/><figcaption>Winley Drive on a September evening. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Streatch said he is hopeful the move will help \nthe community and residents. He said there will be no impact to any \nsnow-clearing in the winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re designed as such the \ncontractors equipment can go over them, but they\u2019ll have to be aware \nthey are there,\u201d he said. \u201cIt would be damage to their equipment more so\n than any of the street infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He understands there will\n be some residents who will not be happy about the speed bumps. Some \nhave expressed their concern online saying they will impede emergency \nresponders response times by upwards of 15 seconds each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn as \nmuch as we want to do all we can to protect those walking, there are \nthose that think differently,\u201d said Streatch. \u201cI would ask those to have\n patience with this traffic calming project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are  significant speeding issues and safety concerns and I understand that.
