When you think of Canada, a racism problem isn\u2019t what comes to mind for many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Especially\n when it compares to other parts of the world, particularly our \nneighbours to the south which seem to be going through their own \nresurgence of problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But, we are not immune to the problems. We are currently in the throws of realizing that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The current situation involving Justin Trudeau are a true testament to what we don\u2019t even know we don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Is Justin Trudeau a racist? Honestly, far from it. Did he do something totally stupid, thoughtless and hurtful? Absolutely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We\n have to be able to admit to ourselves and others and in a place of \ncultural importance that we have a blind spot. We don\u2019t know what we \ndon\u2019t know. But, ignorance cannot be an excuse anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just like \nin a car, not checking our blind spots can lead to disaster. It can be \nlife changing, all because we make a simple mistake not to be mindful of\n our surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Here\u2019s where it gets tricky. We have to be \nwilling to admit that we have this blind spot and not react negatively \nwhen we are called out on behavior. It is okay for us to use it as a \nlearning experience, not a point of shame. We have to react from a place\n of humility, and admit to the blindspots a lot of us have. If we are \nwilling to come together and learn, we can fully celebrate the melting \npot that is Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We all have different cultures, and all have \nthings to be proud of, and things not to be proud of. It\u2019s in the \nhumility and the acceptance that we can find a true balance, together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After\n all, there\u2019s only one race, the human race. But, the world is full of \nbeautiful, extreme, colourful, expressive cultures that deserve to be \nrespected, no matter what.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Challenge yourself. Accept more, learn something new, be open to admitting faults, downfalls, and blindspots. That\u2019s what can make this world a more understanding and cohesive place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
