{"id":12506,"date":"2019-10-04T09:14:29","date_gmt":"2019-10-04T12:14:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=12506"},"modified":"2019-10-04T09:14:29","modified_gmt":"2019-10-04T12:14:29","slug":"scheers-visit-to-bedford-brings-boost-momentum-says-copley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=12506","title":{"rendered":"Scheer\u2019s visit to Bedford brings boost, momentum says Copley"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><strong> Conservative leader says Oct. 3 stop chosen because of geography to other ridings <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BEDFORD: <\/strong>Conservative leader Andrew Scheer\u2019s visit \nto the Halifax-area will provide a boost and kick-start momentum for \ncandidates in N.S., said the Conservative candidate for \nSackville-Preston-Chezzetcook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kevin Copley, who is vying to  unseat Liberal Darrell Samson in the riding, was among the almost 500  people who filled May Garden Restaurant in the Mill Cove Shopping Plaza  in Bedford in support of Halifax West candidate Fred Shuman on Oct. 3. They were there to welcome Scheer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving  Andrew Scheer come here isn\u2019t just a big boost not only to our campaign  , but to Atlantic Canada,\u201d said Copley. \u201cIt signifies that Andrew cares  about Atlantic Canada, that he\u2019s willing to be present here and support  the Atlantic Canada candidates and hopefully our future MPs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/034-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12507\"\/><figcaption>Conservative leader Andrew Scheer speaks at May Garden in Bedford. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In a\n media scrum after the meet-and-greet\u2014one which wasn\u2019t initially \nplanned, but was hastily organized after news of his dual citizenship \nbroke during the event, Scheer was asked why they chose a Liberal \nstronghold for the event. The seat for Halifax West is held by Liberal \nMP Geoff Regan, who is also the Speaker of the House of Commons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of seats across Atlantic Canada that we are confident will become Conservative on Oct. 21,\u201d said Scheer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe\n reason we made the stop here was because of it\u2019s geographic location \nand that we could be accessed by as many ridings as we possibly could.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said it also came down to where space for such an event was available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Copley was impressed with the turnout at May Garden for the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\n were at standing room only and I think we had to turn people away,\u201d he \nsaid. \u201cIt really shows that people are impressed with Andrew and believe\n in his positive Conservative vision for Atlantic Canada.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He spoke about the campaign with 17 days to go, calling it a grind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI  tell people all the time that campaigning isn\u2019t glamorous, it\u2019s hard  work and there\u2019s a lot efforts behind the scenes by people who often  don\u2019t get the credit,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ve loved every step of the way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/094-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12508\"\/><figcaption>Fletchers Lake resident Kerstin Boyce gets her photo taken with Conservative leader Andrew Scheer after his meet and greet event at May Garden in the Mill Cove Plaza in Bedford on Oct. 3 in support of his Halifax-area candidates. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Copley\n was looking forward to hearing questions from residents and the \nbusiness community at the Oct. 8 FRABA\/The Laker Candidates Forum, \nscheduled for the Waverley Legion. It will run from 6:30-9 p.m., and \nwill be live tweeted (pending Wifi availability) over @TheLakerNews. You\n don\u2019t need twitter to follow along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked about how the \ndoor-to-door canvassing is going, Copley said things have been positive \nwhen he\u2019s been on the doorsteps. He has knocked on close to 15,000-plus \ndoors as of Oct. 3, with much more to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe reception has been  very good for us at the door,\u201d said Copley. \u201cPeople are ready for a  change.
