They \nsold cupcakes for the CIBC Run for the Cure, held Oct. 6. All but Lizzy \nand Maddy live in the Spider Lake Subdivision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They came up with \nthe idea on the morning of Oct. 5. With the oversight of an adult, they \nbaked the cupcakes and then put the icing on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maddy Giffin talked about why the group wanted to hold the fundraiser for the Run for the Cure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dWe\u2019re selling the cupcakes so we can help raise money for run for the cure,\u201d said Giffin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked why, Lizzy Giffin answered the question with ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople all around the world are going to races to help find a cure for cancer, and we want to help them,\u201d said Lizzy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Max Hann explained when the kids decided the sunny, but cool Saturday afternoon was the perfect time to hold the fundraiser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe decided today to do it,\u201d said a shy Max. \u201cWe\u2019re already on our second tray of cupcakes too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maddy said the response from those in the neighbourhood was positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had a lot of people stop by and support us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\n had had big and small cupcakes with the big ones costing 75 cents and \nthe smaller ones 25 cents. They were in chocolate\u2014which this reporter \ncan attest to as being very scrumptious\u2014and vanilla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Eden and Maddy took part in the Run for the Cure on Oct. 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cupcake fundraiser saw the five raise close to $125 in a couple hours worth of selling from the end of their driveway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WAVERLEY: Five Waverley youth showed their empathetic and caring side on Oct. 5.
