{"id":12600,"date":"2019-10-17T09:33:34","date_gmt":"2019-10-17T12:33:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=12600"},"modified":"2019-10-17T09:33:34","modified_gmt":"2019-10-17T12:33:34","slug":"wellington-connector-construction-on-schedule-fall-2021-target-for-opening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=12600","title":{"rendered":"Wellington Connector construction on schedule; Fall 2021 target for opening"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>WELLINGTON: <\/strong>Construction of the Wellington\/Aerotech Connector is on schedule, says a Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal spokeswoman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marla MacInnis was responding to an Oct. 11 inquiry from <em>The Laker<\/em>\n to TIR about the status of the project and where it stands. An \nEnvironmental Assessment was filed in September, and a decision from the\n Minister of Environment is expected this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe project is \nrunning on schedule,\u201d said MacInnis. \u201cConstruction is expected to start \nnext year, pending environmental assessment approval.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \nConnector was greeted with much fanfare on March 2, 2017 when Liberal \nMPs Darrell Samson and Sean Fraser joined MLA Bill Horne for the \nannouncement at the Wellington-Fletchers Lake Station House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At \nthat presser, it was announced that the feds are contributing $10 \nmillion to the construction of the Wellington\/Aerotech Connector; while \nthe province is contributing $11.2 million to cover the $21 million \nproject. It will be five kilometres in length, and include two \nroundabouts, one of which is near Sunylea Drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an April 17, \n2019 public open house in Wellington, residents voiced concerns of \nblasting impact on residents wells in Oaken Hills; noise from transport \ntrucks along the road; impact on the environment; and the speed limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials\n from TIR provided answers to many residents questions as well as heard \nconcerns. There was also a spot to leave feedback and drop it in a box \nfor TIR to consider as they look at what improvements can be made, if \nany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacInnis said a list of concerns and comments from the open house were compiled and reviewed by the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe department\u2019s general construction\/maintenance practices will mitigate most concerns,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No further consultations are planned at this time, said MacInnis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\n had been questions from some in the community on whether transit \noptions would be possible as part of the new connector. MacInnis doused \nany hopes of that possibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPark and ride\/transit options are not part of the project at this time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At\n the April 2019 meeting, a timeline for the work was posted and it \nindicated that clearing work will take place between Fall 2019 and \nSpring 2020; subgrade and structure work will take place Spring 2020 to \nFall 2020; with paving and roundabouts being constructed Spring 2021 to \nFall 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wellington\/Aerotech Connector is expected to be open to traffic by Fall 2021, said MacInnis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WELLINGTON: Construction of the Wellington\/Aerotech Connector is on schedule, says a Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal spokeswoman.
