Two sisters from Noel among those in group fundraising for trip <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

FALL RIVER:<\/strong>\n Two sisters with the Fall River Ranger unit are among the eight members\n of the group and two chaperones who are hard at work fundraising to \nattend Wings 202, a Girl Guide jamboree in London, England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naomi \nHammond and Mikayla Hammond, who both travel 84 kilometres round-trip \nweekly to the St. John\u2019s United Church in Fall River from Noel, are \nexcited about getting to go to Wings 2020, what the jamboree in England \nis named. It will be Naomi\u2019s third jamboree, while for Mikayla it will \nbe her first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMost of our fundraising is selling cookies, but \nit\u2019s hard to with the cute little ones selling cookies too,\u201d said Naomi \nwith a chuckle. \u201cBuying cookies from us is supporting our trip. Every \none loves the six-year-olds, they forget about us 16-year-olds that also\n need to sell cookies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the other fundraisers are the Rangers are holding is a spaghetti dinner on Nov. 23 in Fall River, from 4-7 p.m. at St. John\u2019s United Church in Fall River. The sisters are encouraging many to come on out and enjoy a great meal, while supporting their endeavour. It will cost $12 for adults and $7 for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naomi said it\u2019s crazy the \nopportunities she\u2019s received since joining the Girl Guide movement as a \nbrownie at seven. You can also get a high school credit in Grade 10 and \nGrade 12 by being in Rangers\/Girl Guides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were just going to \nhave something to do on Tuesday nights,\u201d she said. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t supposed \nto be anything. The fact there\u2019s things like this, is really an amazing \nopportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mikayla said the jamboree is called Wings 2020, and they will be doing a activity called the London Challenge which will take them to Big Ben and the London Eye. It will be held July 25 to Aug. 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll be doing different activities and get to see various things around London,\u201d said Mikayla, who is home schooled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\n also get to go to a west end show and I\u2019m so excited for that,\u201d added \nNaomi, who graduated a year early and attends Mount Saint Vincent. \u201cI \nlove musical theatre.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naomi said part of the trip involves them \ngoing to the Girl Guide movements world center in England; and a camp on\n the lawns of Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mikayla has never been outside of North America, so the trip is one she\u2019s looking forward to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt will be very interesting,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naomi, 17, said she will be spending her birthday in England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt seems like a pretty cool place to be spending your 18th birthday,\u201d she said with a chuckle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
