{"id":12887,"date":"2019-11-19T21:20:09","date_gmt":"2019-11-20T01:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=12887"},"modified":"2019-11-19T21:20:09","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T01:20:09","slug":"wanderers-resign-fall-rivers-firth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=12887","title":{"rendered":"Wanderers resign Fall River\u2019s Firth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>HALIFAX:<\/strong>\n Fall River native Scott Firth impressed the Halifax Wanderers and Head \ncoach Stephen Hart during play this season in the Canadian Premier \nLeague enough they have re-signed the Lockview High student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The news was announced in a release on Nov. 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Firth\n equipped himself well in his first professional season, balancing his \nstudies with professional sport, making eight appearances for the \nWanderers for a total of 290 minutes on the pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt feels \nreally good that the club has the confidence in me for a second year and\n I\u2019m glad to get started next season with the team,\u201d Firth said in a \nteam release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 18-year-old is a player Hart has known about for\n years, having watched him develop as a young player with local team \nSuburban. Firth went to nationals with Suburban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cScott is young \nand improving all the time and he is fantastic in the dressing room and \nhe has shown a willingness to learn,\u201d Hart said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Composure on the \nball and a tidy range of passing, previously earned Firth trials with \nPortuguese clubs Sporting and Benfica, as well as Toronto FC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re technical skills he\u2019s continued to work on since being a part of the Wanderers set up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many\n who know Firth also know about his spectacular ability to juggle the \nball, once keeping it in the air for 45 minutes and a staggering 5,200 \ntouches!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve said it before but it\u2019s a dream come true being \nable to play in front of the Halifax fans, stepping onto the field was \namazing last season,\u201d said Firth on Nov. 19. \u201cI hope for the same energy\n this year.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HALIFAX: Fall River native Scott Firth impressed the Halifax Wanderers and Head coach Stephen Hart during play this season in the Canadian Premier League enough they have re-signed the Lockview High student.
