{"id":13133,"date":"2019-12-31T07:00:15","date_gmt":"2019-12-31T11:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=13133"},"modified":"2019-12-31T07:00:15","modified_gmt":"2019-12-31T11:00:15","slug":"fighting-to-get-back-on-the-pitch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=13133","title":{"rendered":"Fighting to get back on the pitch"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> <strong><em>Lockview rugby player Marley Raycroft paid surprise visit by Rugby Canada players <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER: <\/strong>Marley\n Raycroft eats, breathes, and lives rugby, so it\u2019s no wonder that the \nsport she has a passion for is what is leading her charge in recovery \nfrom a health scare that happened in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fall River \ngirl plays the sport that sees men and women hit each other as hard as \npossible as they try to score a try or prevent a try because she gets a \ngreat adrenaline rush on the pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s unlike anything else,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marley\n discovered she had a blood clot in her lung which left her fighting for\n her life in hospital. It caused her to have four cardiac arrests and \nforced her to miss the first two weeks of school. The recovery process \nalso has her sidelined from playing with the Lockview High girls rugby \nteam, which was a disappointment. But she\u2019s working hard to ensure she\u2019s\n on the field for the next season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The diagnosis of her having blood clot came about after she started having pains in her stomach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\n went a full day having pains so my parents said let\u2019s go to emergency \nand we went there,\u201d said Raycroft. \u201cThey did a bunch of tests and said I\n was fine so I could go home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI went home and had a nap and had \nthe worse pains. So we went back to emergency. I stood up and passed out\n in the room, so they looked at me and then determined I had a blood \nclot in my lung.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her recovery continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, Rugby Canada\u2019s Olivia\n DeMerchant and Alysha Corrigan, both players Marley idolizes, came to \nthe school and presented her with a Rugby Canada jersey. The whole thing\n came as a surprise to Marley who had no idea what was about to take \nplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe school had called \ndown student council and the girls rugby team for what I thought was \nsome sort of presentation,\u201d said Marley. \u201cI was happy I was missing \nclass and they were talking about how you have to be resilient to play \nit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was so shocked. I was so overwhelmed.
