{"id":13410,"date":"2020-03-05T04:04:46","date_gmt":"2020-03-05T08:04:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=13410"},"modified":"2020-03-05T04:04:46","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T08:04:46","slug":"man-youth-arrested-for-firearm-incident-resulting-in-lunch-hour-lockdown-at-lockview-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=13410","title":{"rendered":"Man, youth arrested for firearm incident resulting in lunch-hour lockdown at Lockview High"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> A incident involving a firearm sent Lockview High into a lockdown shortly after the lunch hour on March 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident sent Halifax District RCMP officers to\nthe scene and had many students\u2014already out for lunch and down at the Tim\u2019s and\nDairy Queen\u2014scared and concerned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many were spotted calling their parents to inform them\nthey were okay and what was happening. An RCMP officer was at the Tim\u2019s and\nasked a few students for assistance, showing them something on his cellphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RCMP arrested an 18-year-old male a short bit away and have recovered the weapon involved. No one was hurt during the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/89027402_986667225061489_7359210755553492992_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13411\"\/><figcaption>RCMP discuss the incident along the Jamieson Park path. (Photo by Sean DeWitt\/Waterfront Hfx Media)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After ensuring the school was safe, police\nthen&nbsp;got&nbsp;information&nbsp;that there were&nbsp;two people\ntogether&nbsp;on the path&nbsp;and one&nbsp;was holding&nbsp;the firearm.\nPolice were able to identify the&nbsp;suspects&nbsp;and contacted them&nbsp;by\nphone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspects&nbsp;gave their&nbsp;location and\npolice&nbsp;went there, arresting the suspects without incident at a business\non Fall River Rd. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither person had&nbsp;the firearm&nbsp;but\nthey&nbsp;told police where it could be found.&nbsp;The firearm was recovered\nwith&nbsp;assistance of the Halifax Regional Police K9 Unit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;home on Fall River Rd. was searched and\nadditional weapons and ammunition were seized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 15-year-old youth from Halifax is charged with:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nUnsafe Storage of a Firearm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nPossession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nCarrying a Concealed Weapon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nUnauthorized Possession of a Firearm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nPossession of a Firearm Knowing it is Unauthorized<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nPossession of a Restricted or Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nManufacture of a Firearm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colby Ivan James Chaulk, 18, of Fall River, is\ncharged with: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nUnsafe Storage of a Firearm, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nPossession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nCarrying Concealed Weapon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nUnauthorized Possession of a Firearm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nUnauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nPossession of a Firearm Knowing it is Unauthorized<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nPossession of a Prohibited Weapon Knowing it is Unauthorized<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nPossession of a Restricted or Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nManufacture of a Firearm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police had tape around the path at Jamieson Drive and\nhad Lockview High\u2019s driveway blocked. Several vehicles were parked on the side\nof Lockview Road as parents came to pick up their children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearby Ash Lee Jefferson and Georges P. Vanier Junior\nHigh were placed in hold &amp; secure while the incident took place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both Chaulk and the 15-year-old were&nbsp;held in\ncustody and are scheduled to appear in court today. The youth will appear in\nHalifax Provincial Youth Court and Chaulk will appear in Dartmouth Provincial\nCourt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A letter was sent home to parents of students at LHS indicating\n\u201cinformation was passed on to them of two individuals were in close proximity\nto school property, and in possession of a weapon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAdministration instantly put the school in lockdown\nand phoned the RCMP,\u201d said principal Bernie MacEachern in the letter. \u201cThey\nimmediately arrived at the school and assisted in securing the building,\nfollowing HRCE\u2019s lockdown procedures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It continued saying the lockdown was lifted after they\nreceived word from RCMP that two arrests had been made and the security of the\nschool was confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPlease be assured that student safety was our number\none priority throughout the process,\u201d the letter said.
