Former reporter at print edition of papers excited at\nopportunity<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

FALL RIVER: <\/strong>News, event and sports coverage in the Fall\nRiver\/Beaver Bank and some of East Hants areas will continue with the relaunch\nof The Laker News\u2014at least in a digital-only format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the\nassistance of two investors, Pat Healey will be relaunching The Laker News as\nan online news website, geared to continuing the great coverage he and The Laker\nprovided for years in print. Healey will also be part-owner of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cI\u2019m excited and nervous, but more excited,\nabout the opportunity that lies ahead,\u201d said Healey, 41. \u201cI hope the community\nis as excited to have me back covering their stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am very grateful to be given this chance by my two backers to get my feet wet as a part owner, with the hope of one day The Laker News being owned by myself. It would be a dream.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Healey was given the social media pages for The Weekly Press and The Laker. He continued with both as the rebranded The Laker News, with the look to the future of eventually merging The Weekly Press into The Laker News FB page. He also deactivated both of the papers Twitter accounts since his @reprtrPatHealey had more of a following.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alan Joyce from\nFall River-based WHATASITE.COM is assisting Healey on the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born in Enfield,\nHealey went to Holland College Journalism school and had worked at his hometown\npaper The Weekly Press and The Laker for 11 years and four months before both\nwere suddenly closed on Jan. 6, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the news was devastating and shocked Healey\u2019s life\u2014and left the communities he covered sad–he took advantage of the offer of being given the website to run on his own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now his hope is\nthat the community has his back and shows that the gamble of being his own\nboss-something he never imagined doing\u2014will be worth it. He will be a one-man\nshow collecting both advertisements and being the reporter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m just doing\nwhat I love doing and that\u2019s telling the stories of the people in the\ncommunities I cover,\u201d said Healey. \u201cI hope the community sees that and supports\nme in this venture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is only\ngoing to be as successful as the support I get from everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The anticipated\nlaunch date for the website, which can be found at www.TheLaker.ca, is\ntentatively scheduled for March 30. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
