{"id":13710,"date":"2020-03-29T19:15:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-29T22:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=13710"},"modified":"2020-03-29T19:15:00","modified_gmt":"2020-03-29T22:15:00","slug":"praising-dr-strang-community-says-thank-you-to-one-of-their-own","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=13710","title":{"rendered":"Praising Dr. Strang: Community says thank you to one of their own"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> Nova Scotia\u2019s Chief Medical Officer of Health is getting plenty of praise across the province for his handling of the COVID19 pandemic, but none more close-to-the heart than that of his home community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Fall River neighbourhood that Dr. Strang and his family call home, the lawns of many homes throughout the area are littered with \u201cThank You\u201d signs and messages written in chalk on the driveways of neighbours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> [adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;] <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> [adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;] <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea came about after Jacquie Cohen saw Dr. Strang walking by. The idea was a winner with Cohen\u2019s two kids, Kieran and Declan, aged nine and seven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe see Dr. Strang regularly walk through our neighbourhood almost daily,\u201d said Cohen. \u201cAnd yesterday afternoon as I saw him walk by, I thought this would be a great way to show our appreciation for all he is doing for Nova Scotia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/90314942_10163135061965234_5112535817104916480_o-1024x753.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13711\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Strang is leading the way as N.S. enacts measures that will help in the fight against COVID19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are way ahead of so much of the\nworld, including many other provinces, and he is to thank for being so\nproactive in this crisis,\u201d said Cohen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kieran and Declan saw the video of\nDr. Strang answering questions about why they can\u2019t go to school or play with their\nfriends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey found it reassuring that this man, that they recognized from our neighbourhood, was playing such an active role in keeping them safe,\u201d she said. \u201cThey loved the idea of thanking him for \u201cgetting rid of the corona.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/91008913_10163135061670234_7770326433875886080_o-1024x754.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13712\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/91204066_10163135094840234_3509309784903909376_o-e1585518274993.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13713\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Cohen said they hope he feels appreciated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so incredibly tough to make decisions that impact on people\u2019s freedom and emotional and financial well-being,\u201d said Cohen. \u201cWe want him to know that we appreciate his sacrifices (time with his own family included) for our province\u2019s well-being.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FALL RIVER: Nova Scotia\u2019s Chief Medical Officer of Health is getting plenty of praise across the province for his handling of the COVID19 pandemic, but none more close-to-the heart than that of his home community.
