{"id":13915,"date":"2020-04-04T04:05:44","date_gmt":"2020-04-04T07:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=13915"},"modified":"2020-04-04T04:05:44","modified_gmt":"2020-04-04T07:05:44","slug":"haworth-named-dalhousie-presidents-award-recipient","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=13915","title":{"rendered":"Haworth named Dalhousie President&#8217;s Award recipient"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>WAVERLEY:<\/strong> A shining alum and star from the Lockview High volleyball program has been named the female President Award winner in her fifth and final season of AUS volleyball play with the Dalhousie Tigers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President\u2019s Award recognizes an individual who best combines athletics, academics, leadership and fair play; a combination for which we hope every student-athlete strives. One female and one male student-athlete are selected each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;36&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tori Haworth, who volunteers with Special Olympics N.S.; Ronald McDonald House, and Relay for Life, led the AUS in hitting percentage and was second in total blocks and service aces per set earning AUS first team all-star honours for the third time in her career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Waverley product was also named a U SPORTS second team All-Canadian in helping to lead the Tigers to their eighth-straight AUS championship title this year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Haworth is a combined medical sciences and engineering student.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dalhousie\u2019s AUS 2020 James Bayer Memorial Scholarship Award nominee, she is a standout in the classroom as well. Haworth is an Academic All-Canadian and is the first student at Dalhousie to pursue a combined degree in medical sciences and engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNot only does she work hard on the court and in the classroom, she is very devoted to community service work,\u201d a release from the Tigers said. \u201cA member of the Varsity Council, she serves as the Special Tigers co-chair, bringing Tigers student-athletes and Special Olympians together on a regular basis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Victoria also led the Tigers \u2018Serve for the Cure\u2019 initiative this year, raising more than $6,500 for cancer research and program support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WAVERLEY: A shining alum and star from the Lockview High volleyball program has been named the female President Award winner in her fifth and final season of AUS volleyball play with the Dalhousie Tigers.
