Matheson Centre in Elmsdale, Jody MacArthur, spokeswoman for the Municipality of East Hants provided some insight in to what is going on during the shutdown, as a result of the provincial State of Emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are waiting to hear from the Province and Public Health as to when we can open the aquatic centre while following Public Health directives,\u201d said MacArthur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;36&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She confirmed that there are costs to running the building while closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have done what we can to contain those costs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacArthur noted what MEH did right at the start when the state of emergency was put in place. It is their hope they will be able to bring those employees scheduled back when the facility opens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe laid off our casual aquatic staff very early on after COVID-19 forced the closure of the aquatic centre,\u201d she said. \u201cWe hope to re-hire them as quickly as possible once we are able to re-open.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;2&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ELMSDALE: The official opening of the municipality\u2019s new Aquatic Centre remains unknown because of COVID19.
