{"id":14962,"date":"2020-06-22T19:00:30","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T22:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=14962"},"modified":"2020-06-22T19:00:30","modified_gmt":"2020-06-22T22:00:30","slug":"happy-trails-mrs-samson-wmes-teacher-given-surprise-farewell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=14962","title":{"rendered":"Happy trails Mrs. Samson: WMES teacher given surprise farewell"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>WINDSOR JUNCTION:<\/strong> Teachers are good at keeping secrets and making surprises, even if the one they are surprising is one of their own who was putting down her pen one last time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the lunch hour on a hot summer sunny day on June 19, the staff at Waverley Memorial Elementary School (WMES) quickly decorated many of their vehicles and then formed a line in unison as they headed to Ingram Drive in Fall River Village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lead vehicle in the parade was an old fashioned camper van that had \u201cOff The Clock on the front and back, and \u201cHappy Retirement\u201d across both driver and passenger side. The caravan of vehicles travelled Rocky Lake Drive to Cobequid Road, and then up to Windsor Junction Road before turning onto Winley Drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/104417091_10163685704315188_659313095339312034_n-e1592843801135.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15015\"\/><figcaption>There were plenty of decorated vehicles for the retirement parade for Mrs. Samson. And oh, there was the parade of vehicles many honking that filled the parking area adjacent to Samson\u2019s home where a new, controversial development is proposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was all too much for Samson, whose husband is local MP Darrell Samson, who does not one bit like to be in the spotlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/104653097_10163685697410188_6569038435491990662_n-e1592843634267.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15018\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>She thanked everyone for dropping by and wishing her well as she retires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was told Dana and Shelley were coming. This is reminiscent of the Fun Fairs at the school,\u201d said Faye. \u201cI certainly didn\u2019t expect or want this, but I do appreciate it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThank you very much.
