(Healey photo)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Dr. Pauline Giffin and Dr. Krista Simonson opened business on June 22<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WAVERLEY:<\/strong> Living in Waverley, Dr. Pauline Giffin was looking for a way she could ply her passion in her own community. So, what better way then opening her own veterinarian clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And thus, Waverley Animal Hospital was born. The clinic, which is in the old Wendy\u2019s Neverland building at the corner of Hwy 2 and Rocky Lake Drive in Waverley, has undergone quite the changeover that allows it to be the purrrffect fit for an animal hospital. Dr. Giffin and her husband own the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/5C8EE804-A10A-4D98-A517-0FFA24B9E21A-1-rotated.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14997\"\/><figcaption>Dr. Giffin and Dr. Simonson at the reception waiting area. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As you walk in the front doors\u2014due to COVID19 they are having clients call them at 902-576-2068 and are being met at the front door to be allowed in\u2014you are greeted by the friendly receptionist who will let either Dr. Giffin or Dr. Krista Simonson know that you are there for your appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been tough, but we\u2019ve had an amazing construction crew who has worked hard at it, through social distancing,\u201d said Dr. Giffin. \u201cWe also had to have some inspectors come form out west to do inspections of our equipment, so that was a bit challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWorking together collaboratively we were able to get through some of these things. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>COVID19 has affected the business by not allowing the interaction with the owners of their fur patients as they would normally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt breaks our hearts as doctors because we can\u2019t greet our new clients as we would like to,\u201d said Dr. Giffin. \u201cWe can provide all of the services now, before we were restricted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Giffin said as a health service, vet clinics have been given the privilege to remain open under the State of Emergency provided they take measures to respect public and staff safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow, we can provide our services, but we still have to limit public interaction for our staff and what they\u2019re exposed too,\u201d she said. \u201cMost clinics have a locked door policy now, &nbsp;and will continue that for the foreseeablefuture for the safety of everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In back there is the \u201cheart of the animal hospital\u201d the treatment area, where many things are done to look after one\u2019s pet, including blood work. In the room is where in-house x-rays are taken, say if an animal has a broken leg it will be examined in that room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/D1B7ECF3-CB99-435E-9E9E-2CB91A83D892-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15000\"\/><figcaption>This kitty wasn&#8217;t having any of the test photo for the Laker News. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adjacent to the treatment area is a room where any pets are kept warm and calmed during procedures such as surgeries, performed by Dr. Giffin or Dr. Simonson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the tour, we then walked to the examination rooms where the dogs and cats will be first seen by either of the two vets for care, with adjustable tables. Cats can be seen in another room to keep their stress levels down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe can check over the pets without even the use of the tables for the most part,\u201d said Dr. Simonson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also have an isolation room for any dog that may have say for example kennel cough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey would go straight into that room, and we would examine them right there and talk to their owner, releasing them out the side door,\u201d said Dr. Giffin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;47&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Giffin and Dr. Simonson were anxiously counting the hours until they officially opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got all our stuff on site now that we need, all we need and can\u2019t wait to see are our new patients coming through our doors,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019re all focused on our processes, that they\u2019re in place and working well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/2F8F56E9-B089-4D9F-B73F-8591D9A18C8B-rotated.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14996\"\/><figcaption>Watching things like a hawk in the treatment area. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Simonson said she\u2019s excited to get working with the team at the Waverley Animal Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really proud and thrilled to be working with a local animal clinic,\u201d she said. \u201cThe area is lovely. I couldn\u2019t ask for anything better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waverley Animal Hospital will have a staff of about 10 people, all of them from the Bedford\/Sackville\/Waverley area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re using the talent that we have form our area,\u201d said Dr. Giffin. \u201cThere\u2019s many years of experience with us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;9&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hospitals hours of operation are as follows: Monday-Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Anything outside of those hours and on the weekends, clients are being forwarded to the 24 hour Metro Animal Emergency Clinic in Dartmouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/5C2798DA-624D-4A21-AEF4-BDE1BCD6A52E-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14998\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The positive feedback has been amazing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe couldn\u2019t have done this without the community support,\u201d said Dr. Giffin. \u201cWe tried to keep everything local as best that we could.
