{"id":16251,"date":"2020-08-23T04:23:21","date_gmt":"2020-08-23T07:23:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=16251"},"modified":"2020-08-23T04:23:21","modified_gmt":"2020-08-23T07:23:21","slug":"wellington-hall-receives-hrm-grant-funding-for-upcoming-renovations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=16251","title":{"rendered":"Wellington hall receives HRM grant funding for upcoming renovations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;79&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WELLINGTON: The work to upgrade and make improvements to the Wellington\/Fletchers Lake Station House is continuing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Volunteers with the non-profit community hall, which also houses Station 42 Wellington fire department, have been busy renovating and fixing the roof and adding a new patio at the side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly, thanks to a cheque for $10,000 from HRM, they will be doing work on the front side of the hall. Councillor Steve Streatch presented the cheque to the group recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been renovating the hall to make it look better in the community, and make it more modern,\u201d said Steven Hobson, president of the Wellington\/Fletchers Lake Station House Society. \u201cThis money will be used now to do the front of the hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve done the backside and put a patio on last year. Now it\u2019s time to do the front so it will look nice from those travelling on Hwy 2.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_0476-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16252\"\/><figcaption>The Wellington\/Fletchers Lake Station volunteer board was presenetd with a HRM Grant cheque recently by Councillor Steve Streatch. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the work has been ongoing for approximately two or three years outside and inside, including the work on the kitchen facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hobson spoke about the impact of COVID19 on the operation of the non-profit facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had great business going up until February and we closed from March to middle of June because of COVID19,\u201d he said. \u201cWe reopened in middle of June and it\u2019s been seven weeks, and we\u2019re struggling along but being community-based we\u2019re trying to get the community to come to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re hoping to use the kitchen to draw the community out to us a bit more.
