{"id":16394,"date":"2020-08-27T12:04:29","date_gmt":"2020-08-27T15:04:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=16394"},"modified":"2020-08-27T12:04:29","modified_gmt":"2020-08-27T15:04:29","slug":"halifax-water-announces-no-water-rate-increases-over-next-two-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=16394","title":{"rendered":"Halifax Water announces no water rate increases over next two years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;79&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WINDSOR JUNCTION:<\/strong> Earlier today the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (NSUARB) approved Halifax Water\u2019s recommendation that there be no increase in water rates for fiscal 2020\/21 and 2021\/22; and no increase in overall wastewater rates in 2020\/21.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An increase to wastewater treatment\/usage charges is approved to take effect April 1, 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Halifax Water General Manager Cathie O\u2019Toole said, \u201cHalifax Water\u2019s initial request to increase rates was filed prior to the pandemic. Recognizing many customers were concerned about the future and their ability to pay bills, a longer-term strategy was developed that allowed Halifax Water to reduce its requested rate increases, while continuing to maintain high quality, reliable and affordable service\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;21&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To further assist customers, Halifax Water also withdrew some planned increases to miscellaneous fees and charges and introduced some temporary customer assistance programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NSUARB also approved Halifax Water\u2019s enhanced lead service line replacement program that will help eliminate public and private lead service lines by 2039.
