(Healey photo)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ELMSDALE:<\/strong> On an early Wednesday in November, Elmsdale Volunteer firefighters and their families were treated to a tasty reward with one condition. They had to have received their flu shots just moments earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building upon having the department receive its flu shots, Philomena Oakley, owner of Philly\u2019s Country Oven Bakery in Dutch Settlement, was invited over to the department by firefighter Laura Mather. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She thought having Philly and her delicious cinnamon buns on hand would be a perfect treat for those getting their flu shots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMG_6472-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17875\"\/><figcaption>Elmsdale fire chief Kevin Goodman holds a certificate presented to him by Philly Oakley on Nov. 4, while keeping their social distance. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Philly also had a special presentation to make to Elmsdale Fire Chief Kevin Goodman before the night got busy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe started a program last summer where the customers that purchase cinnamon products, I would donate 10 per cent of the sales to a fire station,\u201d said Philly. \u201cThe customers would nominate their fire stations and when a fire station reached 50 nominations, they would be the fire station to receive the 10 per cent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;2&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;96&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMG_6509-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17876\" width=\"485\" height=\"720\"\/><figcaption>Two of the children with the Wood family get helped getting their cinnamon buns by Philly Oakley. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The total donated\u2014as counted afterwards by Elmsdale Fire Chief Kevin Goodman\u2014was $180. Philly brought 35 cinnamon buns with her to the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Philly said the communities support has been astounding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe support has been wonderful,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Philly\u2019s Country Oven Bakery, which celebrated it\u2019s second anniversary on Oct. 6, is located at 1021 Hwy 277 Dutch Settlement, just up the road from the elementary school. &nbsp;Their hours are as follows: Wednesday 9-5; Thursday and Fridays 10-7; Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 10-5.
