{"id":18071,"date":"2020-11-14T23:08:06","date_gmt":"2020-11-15T03:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=18071"},"modified":"2020-11-14T23:08:06","modified_gmt":"2020-11-15T03:08:06","slug":"it-feels-like-youre-in-a-bit-of-a-jigsaw-puzzle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=18071","title":{"rendered":"\u201cIt feels like you\u2019re in a bit of a jigsaw puzzle.\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;93&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;95&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>Deagle Gammon talks about the first <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>weeks as an HRM councillor<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> It\u2019s been a whirlwind six days for newly elected District 1 Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon as she learns the ropes of being the representative on HRM council for Waverley-Fall River-Musquodoboit Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During an interview at a Fall River coffee shop, Deagle Gammon spoke about the days since being sworn in; what topics she has been emailed about from residents; and about upcoming meetings she has with constituents in Elderbank, Meagher\u2019s Grant, and in the Fall River area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an amazing learning experience,\u201d said Deagle Gammon. \u201cIt feels like you\u2019re in a bit of a jigsaw puzzle and you\u2019re getting all this orientation from the different business units, the CAO and the Mayor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery day there\u2019s two or three big information pieces coming to you, so you have time tor receive and process it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deagle Gammon said she\u2019s thrilled to be part of a council that is trailblazing with eight women and eight men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said she was looking forward to learning more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOnce boot camp is over, we\u2019ll feel grounded in what the process is,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m very much a process person. I like knowing the rules, and I like being creative so understanding everything first then you\u2019ll understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe first week is all about information, including receiving info from our residents in our emails from them telling me about issues and making me aware of things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deagle Gammon said people have been generous with the information and time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I was campaigning, I got an intro level on issues in the district, but since then I have received more in-depth and detailed-level of many issues,\u201d she said. \u201cI have been able to get out to visit our communities during the days and evenings to meet people, like in Dutch Settlement at Philly\u2019s Country Oven.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said it\u2019s lovely to have a Deputy Mayor like Lisa Blackburn who is helping the new councillors learn the ropes.
