FALL RIVER\/EAST HANTS:<\/strong> As Nova Scotia’s Provincial Police, road safety is a top priority. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In an effort to keep citizens informed about enforcement on our roadways, Nova Scotia RCMP is releasing statistics for all RCMP detachments in Nova Scotia for November\u00a02020\u00a0on drivers charged for driving impaired by drugs or alcohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For the month of November, Nova Scotia RCMP charged 112 drivers with impaired related offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 57 charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Alcohol<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 5 charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Drug<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 13 charged with Refusal of a Demand Made by a Peace Officer<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 37 issued driving suspensions for Operating a Conveyance While Having Consumed Alcohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”6″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”96″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Impaired driving investigations can be complex, especially when they involve both alcohol and drugs. This is why Nova Scotia RCMP officers receive a variety of training, and have several tools at their disposal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In Nova Scotia, there are approximately\u00a0250\u00a0RCMP members with training related to drug-impaired driving,\u00a033\u00a0of whom are Drug Recognition Experts (DREs). Nova Scotia RCMP also has\u00a0427\u00a0trained breath technicians who are qualified to operate instruments that determine a driver’s blood alcohol concentration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Failure or refusal to comply with a demand made by a peace officer for a sample for testing sobriety can result in criminal charges that have the same penalties as impaired driving. There are range of fines and periods of driving prohibition for those convicted of driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”31″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”92″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Citizens are asked to call 911 immediately if you see a driver who is driving erratically or unsafely. Here are some signs of an impaired driver to watch for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Driving unreasonably fast, slow or at an inconsistent speed<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Drifting in and out of lanes<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Tailgating and changing lanes frequently<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Making exceptionally wide turns<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Changing lanes or passing without sufficient clearance<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Overshooting or stopping well before stop signs or stop lights<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Disregarding signals and lights<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Approaching signals or leaving intersections too quickly or slowly<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Driving without headlights, failing to lower high beams or leaving turn signals on<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Driving with windows open in cold or inclement weather<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once you call 911, you will be asked to provide the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Your location<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 A description of the vehicle, including the license plate number, colour, make and model<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 The direction of travel for the vehicle<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 A description of the driver if visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”25″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”7″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”34″]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [adrotate banner=”95″] [adrotate banner=”94″] FALL RIVER\/EAST HANTS: As Nova Scotia’s Provincial Police, road safety is a top priority.
