OAKFIELD:<\/strong> The Shubenacadie Watershed Environmental Protection Society (SWEPS) is looking for input from residents on trail development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a post on several community pages, Grant MacLeod, who calls Fall River home and is with the N.S. OffRoadRiders Association, posted about the trail survey for between the Old Truro Road between the Brookhill subdivision in Grand Lake and Grant Road in Enfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Old Truro Road is a public, \u201cK\u201d Road owned by the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (TIR). It was constructed in the late 1700s and was the main route used by Stage Coaches to connect Halifax to Truro and places further afield. It therefore has considerable historic significance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYour input and concerns are important to help determine the future use of the Old Truro Road,\u201d said MacLeod in the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”6<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”31″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n SWEPS would like to develop the Old Truro Road into a managed public trail. The trail would connect the Old Truro Road to trails in Dartmouth, Sackville and, in the other direction, to Carrolls Corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n MacLeod said SWEPS understands that the Old Truro Road is currently used by hikers, mountain bikers, horse riders, hunters, and off highway vehicle riders for recreation, property access and connection to other trail networks, and that these current users must be respected and consulted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt will take about five minutes to complete the survey or a little longer if you have a lot to say,\u201d he said. \u201cAll are encouraged to complete the survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHowever, the responses of residents of Oakfield, Grand Lake and the immediately surrounding communities, and current users of the trails in that area may be weighted higher in the survey evaluation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
