GRAND LAKE:<\/strong> A long-awaited piece of infrastructure is inching closer to being installed in Grand Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, resident Lisa Patter received an email, which was also posted to the Grand Lake\/Oakfield Community Facebook page, from provincial Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (TIR) officials informing her that after a review by the District Traffic supervisor for central district, \u201csignificant improvements\u201d including light\/sign assemblies on each side of the crosswalk are warranted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steve Warburton, TIR spokesman, confirmed to The Laker News on Jan. 15, 2021, that residents should see progress once the piece of equipment arrives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWork is underway on the Grand Lake crosswalk light by Lakeside Drive,\u201d said Warburton in an interview. \u201cConstruction on behalf of HRM, has seen the foundations installed at the base of the poles – before the winter freeze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWork will continue when components arrive, and the sub-contractor is available.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the crosswalk issue is being rectified, the speed of 70 kilometres\/hour will remain in place, as it was determined by TIR to be appropriate for that part of Highway 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
