{"id":19720,"date":"2021-02-13T01:47:24","date_gmt":"2021-02-13T05:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=19720"},"modified":"2021-02-13T01:47:24","modified_gmt":"2021-02-13T05:47:24","slug":"act-of-kindness-three-boys-create-heartfelt-valentines-for-the-sagewood-residents-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=19720","title":{"rendered":"Act of kindness: Three boys create heartfelt Valentine\u2019s for The Sagewood residents, staff"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;93&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LOWER SACKVILLE:<\/strong> Three young boys from the Waverley area showed how big their hearts really are with a random act of kindness towards residents and staff at a retirement and assisted living facility in Lower Sackville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colton Brown, 12; brother Parker, 10, and cousin Marcus Manzoni, eight-years-old, made special Valentine\u2019s for the residents at The Sagewood on Cobequid Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just before rush hour and supper time on Feb. 12, the three along with Colton and Parker\u2019s mom Stephanie, dropped off the gifts and valentine\u2019s outside the facility, where a staff member came out and picked them up saying thank you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe delivered cookies, cake, and a bunch of valentine cards we made to them, hoping it brings a smile to their faces,\u201d said Colton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/148661488_2352098244924350_2752895549948409029_n-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19715\" width=\"739\" height=\"991\"\/><figcaption>Some of the Handmade Valentine&#8217;s that Colton,. Someone suggested in a Facebook group she\u2019s in that long-term care resident homes were now accepting gifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI loved the idea,\u201d said Stephanie Brown in a phone interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colton is a Georges P. (Submitted photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Stephanie said she contacted The Sagewood and asked if it would be appropriate to bring by handmade Valentines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey were very eager to accept thinking that their residents would be delighted to receive them,\u201d said Stephanie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said they also discussed a treat, to which they gave some specifics of what the residents would enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom there it just evolved,\u201d she said. \u201cThe kids got to work making valentines, Marcus was enormously proud of his work. He was focused on doing his best printing on all of his cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cColton decided we should do something for the staff because it\u2019s incredible what they\u2019re doing day in and day out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s where a beautifully made cake from Sugar Mommas Bake Shoppe for the staff came about, along with Tim Hortons coffee, some hot chocolate, and tea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stephanie said Parker chose a Valentines card for all of the kids to sign and say thanks to the care workers for the hard and caring work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a pretty happy afternoon for the residents at the Sagewood,\u201d said Stephanie. \u201cThey (the staff) expressed a great deal of gratitude and appreciation to the boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is proof that a little bit can go a long way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marcus, Colton, and Parker all spoke of why they did the act of kindness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re not getting to see their families right now because of COVID19 and restrictions,\u201d said Parker as Marcus and Colton nodded in agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He could only envision the reaction the residents will have to their kind gesture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think they\u2019re going to open their valentine\u2019s and say, \u2018oh my gosh, this is so nice,\u2019\u201d said Parker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All three agreed bringing joy to the residents made their hearts grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re pleased to do some small thing to try and make their day,\u201d Colton said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While having limited visitors right now is difficult, now the residents at The Sagewood know they have some \u2018secret admirers\u2019 thinking about them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;95&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;110&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;93&#8243;] LOWER SACKVILLE: Three young boys from the Waverley area showed how big their hearts really are with a random act of kindness towards residents and staff at a retirement and assisted living facility in Lower Sackville.
