FLETCHERS LAKE:<\/strong> The NDP candidate for Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank knows first-hand of the speeding issues along Highway 2 from Fall River up through Grand Lake to Enfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In an interview sit-down on Feb. 22, alongside NDP Leader Gary Burrill, Christina McCarron said acting on residents concerns on speeding would be a top priority, should she be elected whenever the provincial election is called.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI would talk to people and get support for the reduction of the speed,\u201d said McCarron during the mid-morning interview at a Fall River coffee shop. \u201cI live just past Holland Road. It may say that it turns into 70 km\/h there right in front of my house, but people go much faster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”6″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”7″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n She\u2019s lived in her home for 22 years and has seen many an accident right at her front yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019ve never seen police, but I think that\u2019s important to mention too,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s enough police patrols here. We\u2019re kind of forgotten.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n McCarron recognizes that while speed reductions would be good it doesn\u2019t mean that people would drive the new speed limits. If a zone were 80 km\/hr and a driver did 100, reducing it to 60 would mean that the driver may only do 80 km\/hr now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”31″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”34″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n She said she would work on getting more of a police presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI don\u2019t see enough people getting stopped for speeding, especially motorcycles,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI think 60 would be an excellent idea, all the way along.
