{"id":20736,"date":"2021-04-08T16:08:52","date_gmt":"2021-04-08T19:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=20736"},"modified":"2021-04-08T16:08:52","modified_gmt":"2021-04-08T19:08:52","slug":"memorial-run-to-honour-lives-lost-in-portapique-and-surrounding-areas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=20736","title":{"rendered":"Memorial run to honour lives lost in Portapique and surrounding areas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;123&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TRURO:<\/strong> The Nova Scotia Remembers Legacy Society will honour and celebrate the lives lost in Portapique and the surrounding community on April 18-19, 2020 with a Memorial Run\/Walk in and around Truro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The run\/walk will occur on April 18, starting at 7 a.m. It can be a 5K, 10K, Full or Half marathon, and start in Portapique or Masstown, depending on the length of the race. All runs can be done in person or virtually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The finish line for all races is in Victoria Park, Truro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proceeds from the event, which is being organized by the team behind the Virtual Vigil: Nova Scotia Remembers, will be used to help fund a permanent memorial site that is being developed by the Nova Scotia Remembers Legacy Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tiff Ward, one of the lead organizers of the race, says the concept for this event is born out of a desire to show support for the families and individuals directly and indirectly impacted by the events that took place and all that they have endured this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The race is being held to mark the anniversary in a meaningful way that we hope isbeneficial to the community as a whole,&#8221; explains Ward. &#8220;Our role is entirely supportive. Grief is a very personal journey. We simply hope to offer a safe place for people to come together and show support for the families and for one another.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The day also includes a commemorative walk in Victoria Park in Truro, and a private ceremony that will be Livestreamed on the Society\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Legacy-Society-run-event-poster-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20737\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commemorative walk will be open to the public between April 11 and April 19.
