{"id":21210,"date":"2021-05-04T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-04T13:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=21210"},"modified":"2021-05-04T10:30:00","modified_gmt":"2021-05-04T13:30:00","slug":"talks-continue-on-agreement-between-halifax-fire-enfield-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=21210","title":{"rendered":"Talks continue on agreement between Halifax Fire, Enfield Fire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;126&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ENFIELD<\/strong>: Negotiations to reach an agreement for fire service coverage on the Enfield HRM side continue, the local councillor for Distirct 1 HRM (Waverley-Fall River-Musquodoboit Valley) said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a recent sit-down interview at a Fall River coffee shop on April 20 (prior to the restrictions being put in place by the province prohibiting dine-in service), Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon gave an update on the status of negotiations between Halifax Fire and Enfield Fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat I understand at this point is that they\u2019re still negotiating,\u201d said Deagle Gammon. \u201cA tentative proposal was brought forward to Enfield and they\u2019re reviewing it to see how they would like to respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI understand they have responded with some counter proposals and they\u2019re still working through what those might look like.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;2&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;7&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last June, Enfield received a letter from HRM Fire terminating the agreement they had with them, effective Oct. 1, 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That agreement included a payment of $40,000 per year from HRM Fire plus dispatch services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt the present time there is no agreement in place, but Enfield Fire would like to assure residents of Enfield HRM that during ongoing negotiations we will provide emergency services without interruption when called,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The letter continues saying \u201cHRM Fire\u2019s current proposed contract contains no financial support to Enfield Fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the event that such an agreement cannot be reached, HRM Fire will be responsible for primary emergency response to Enfield HRM.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deagle Gammon was optimistic that with talks still going something of fruition might come from the talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe fact that its still progressing means both fire services are working together and that\u2019s a positive,\u201d she said. \u201cHopefully, as long as the conversations are still happening its status quo until such time as an agreement is reached.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;126&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;] ENFIELD: Negotiations to reach an agreement for fire service coverage on the Enfield HRM side continue, the local councillor for Distirct 1 HRM (Waverley-Fall River-Musquodoboit Valley) said.
