{"id":21293,"date":"2021-05-09T23:04:53","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T02:04:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=21293"},"modified":"2021-05-09T23:04:53","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T02:04:53","slug":"premier-rankin-non-committal-on-covid19-testing-at-halifax-stanfield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=21293","title":{"rendered":"Premier Rankin non-committal on COVID19 testing at Halifax Stanfield"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;93&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX:<\/strong> The Premier of Nova Scotia danced around a question from The Laker News, when asked why, with higher case numbers of COVID-19 in the province, there still isn\u2019t testing upon entry for travellers on flights arriving at Halifax Stanfield Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent days, there\u2019s been numerous flights, whether Air Canada or WestJet that have had been listed on the potential COVID-019 exposure advisories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">At the May 7 COVID-19 Press briefing, we asked Premier Iain Rankin about knowing the variants are more dangerous and how the province could catch it before it spread in the province, why there wasn\u2019t testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;9&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He answered speaking about the newest restrictions the province had implemented, including how rotational workers from the hot spot areas across Canada, such as Fort McMurray, Alta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe made an adjustment today for rotational workers to minimize any chance of any spread to family members or friends,\u201d he said in responding to our question. \u201cWe have had good compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important to people to know that everyone coming in is tested on either day one or day two.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;123&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VIDEO of us asking this question is at the start of the video<\/strong>. <em>Video edited by: Dagley Media.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pat Healey from The Laker News on the NS COVID-19 Update (05-07-2021)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ERquRpxnkDg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Those changes will now see, effective immediately, rotational workers who are returning home from outbreak zones can no longer do the modified form of self-isolation. They must self-isolate for 14 days in a completely separate space from the other people in their households, but they can share a bathroom that is cleaned between uses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except for their mandatory COVID-19 testing, they cannot attend medical appointments unless there is an emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;95&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In a release later on May 7, <\/strong>PC leader Tim Houston said he doesn\u2019t understand why Premier Rankin continues to refuse to implement rapid testing at the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the closure of our borders &#8211; an acknowledgment that they are a source of the virus coming into Nova Scotia &#8211; the Premier still would not commit to rapid testing at HSIA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe heard the Liberals say they are tightening up our land border to ensure travellers aren\u2019t importing more variants into the province. Why do they continue to ignore the airport?\u201d asked Houston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u201cIt was noted in the same press conference that temporary foreign workers receive a rapid test at the airport and that some cases were initially identified on entry.
