FALL RIVER:<\/strong> Two bright, community-minded young ladies who attend Lockview High have been chosen as the school\u2019s recipients for the Lieutenant Governor Award (Education Medal).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Molly White and Sarah MacDonald-Miles were announced at the school (before the COVID-19 shutdown) as the winners chosen from the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Students are nominated by their school based on academic performance and qualities of leadership and service demonstrated in their school and community. It is open to all Grade 11 students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n MacDonald-Miles, who runs the social entrepreneur business Links of Love giving back to other non-profit organizations, is also involved in Cadets. She congratulated White on winning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt was really good to see the amount of people who were nominated,\u201d said MacDonald-Miles on May 14. \u201cIt\u2019s crazy that they nominated me. It\u2019s amazing that the school recognizes me and Molly out of 1,000 students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”31″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”34″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n She explained it means a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy big thing isn\u2019t about the recognition but about what you\u2019ve done for the recognition,\u201d she said. \u201cLinks of Love has helped with a lot of that. It\u2019s amazing to win it and have it and say I won that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI love the fact that everything I have done has gone toward the award.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n MacDonald-Miles said she was shocked when she heard her name called at school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI got a couple text messages from my friends saying congrats,\u201d she said. \u201cI was smiling and happy. I was trying to be humbled about it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”7″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”123″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n She said the award isn\u2019t all about your marks, but what you\u2019re doing in the school and in your community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n White said there were a lot of great candidates at LHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI feel kind of special having been chosen,\u2019 said White in a socially-distance interview next to Lake Fletcher mid-day on May 14. \u201cI think it\u2019s really cool now that I can go back to those who helped me along the way and thank them by telling them this was made possible because of what they did for me, so thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n She said she had a free period the morning they announced her and MacDonald-Miles as the recipients, so she was at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cA couple of my friends texted me asking if that was for the award (her name being called out),\u201d said White. \u201cI was like \u201cis what for the award?\u201d They said they called me for the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI was super happy. I told my mom, and she was super happy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”127″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”84″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n White and her mom do street cleanups along Lockview Road; volunteers her time with various groups; and is in a leadership role with her sports teams, including her volleyball club team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI put a bunch of things in my application that really show who I am,\u201d said White.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She said her friends were proud of her for winning the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI think it\u2019s a great representation of who I am, so when you\u2019re applying for work or university, they can\u2019t meet you right now with COVID-19, so this tells them a bit of the person I am,\u201d said White. \u201cI\u2019m really grateful.
