DUTCH SETTLEMENT:<\/strong> Fire crews made quick work of a structure fire at a former bakery on Highway 277 in Dutch Settlement on May 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to @HRMFireNews, shortly after 9 p.m., firefighters from Station 40 Dutch Settlement; Station 35 Cooks Brook; Tac 38 Middle Musquodoboit; Station 43 Grand Lake; Elmsdale Fire; and Lantz Fire were paged to the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Station 42 Wellington was also dispatched to provide coverage for Station 40.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gord West, with Halifax Fire, spoke about what crews were met with at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere was smoke showing, heavy smoke and heat upon entry,\u2019 said West. \u201cThere was no fire showing on arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe first in crew found the fire and had it knocked down within minutes of entering.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”2″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”111″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said there was no issue with fire response given that Hyde\u2019s Bridge is out, and that Station 42\/43 were picked by dispatch as closest trucks. However, Halifax District RCMP who responded were unaware the bridge was out initially and went that way, before turning and heading to Elmsdale Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The overhaul of the fire is what took time, West said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMost of the overhaul we did was clearing the smoke and heat,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The scene was turned over to fire investigators at around midnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”30″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”84″]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [adrotate banner=”78″] DUTCH SETTLEMENT: Fire crews made quick work of a structure fire at a former bakery on Highway 277 in Dutch Settlement on May 26.
