{"id":21687,"date":"2021-05-31T20:30:05","date_gmt":"2021-05-31T23:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=21687"},"modified":"2021-05-31T20:30:05","modified_gmt":"2021-05-31T23:30:05","slug":"province-assures-parents-there-will-be-cafeteria-services-upon-school-return-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=21687","title":{"rendered":"Province assures parents there will be cafeteria services upon school return this week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX:<\/strong> Students returning to schools this week will have cafeteria food available to them, the province confirmed on May 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the COVID19 briefing, Premier Iain Rankin was asked what the province would be doing to ensure students who were returning on Wednesday and Thursday had cafeteria food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The question came after concerns online and in inbox messages to The Laker News indicated that schools had given food to the families and food banks when they were told there would be no more in-person learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Premier Rankin said he would bring the question to Education Minister Derek Mombourquette himself. He spoke about the breakfast programs that schools have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI will see what their plans are as they look to reopen Wednesday and Thursday,\u201d he said. \u201cWe do have a good Breakfast Program that is in place. We\u2019re hopeful we can find local food for them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several schools have sent emails home this afternoon after the announcement indicating their cafeteria provider, Chartwell\u2019s, shut down for the year and would not be reopening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here is video of our two questions May 31.
