{"id":22329,"date":"2021-07-09T03:50:44","date_gmt":"2021-07-09T06:50:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=22329"},"modified":"2021-07-09T03:50:44","modified_gmt":"2021-07-09T06:50:44","slug":"five-east-hants-projects-receive-743k-in-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=22329","title":{"rendered":"Five East Hants projects receive $743k in funding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LANTZ:<\/strong>&nbsp; As the dust blew across the Peter Smith Memorial Ball Field in Lantz on a hot, sunny day June 27, Premier Iain Rankin announced the province is supporting five community organizations across East Hants with various projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the announcement, Premier Rankin told a small crowd\u2014who were socially distancing\u2014that the province was investing $743,000 in projects that will see ballfield upgrades in Lantz; trail work in Nine Mile River and Hants North area; energy efficient improvements for the Milford Recreation Association; and the community hall at the Walton Shore Fire Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;By investing in sports and recreation facilities, we are investing in communities and helping people of all ages maintain active, healthy lifestyles,&#8221; said Premier Rankin. &#8220;As a government, one of our priorities is to ensure all Nova Scotians have opportunities to enjoy a lifestyle that will lead them to better health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Premier Rankin acknowledged the strong advocacy of Kings-Hants MP Kody Blois in ensuring these projects came to the province and were priorities to receive funding from the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen Kody came to me to today with some of the projects we\u2019re announcing today, I was happy to be a partner,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s great to see the municipality involved as the good stewards operating recreational facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_0757-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22209\" width=\"393\" height=\"589\"\/><figcaption>Nine Mile River trails volunteer Tyler Dauphinee. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Tyler Dauphine said the $134,565 that the Nine Mile River Trails Association will receive will go towards upgrades of their parking lot to allow for more users and for trail expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019d like to thank the province, the municipality, and Kody because without him, he\u2019s the one who put all of us together and got the ball rolling,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re super excited to expand our parking lot and trail system to ensure our users have a safer and enjoyable experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robin Isenor, from Lantz Rec Society, spoke of the $73,650 for a switch to LED lighting at the ballfield along with drainage and road repairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of the Lantz Recreation Society, I\u2019d like tot hank Premier Rankin and his Liberal government for the funding they\u2019re providing to the Peter Smith Memorial ball field along with all of the other community groups represented here today,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis financial commitment will ensure that the youth and all community members of Lantz and all of the Municipality of East Hants will be able to enjoy the various programs, facilities, and establishments that are represented here today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_0723-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22208\"\/><figcaption>Lantz Rec Society rep Robin Isenor speaks about what the funding will mean for the volunteer group. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;2&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sandra Watson said Milford Rec will use it\u2019s $284,000 towards energy efficient improvements as part of the volunteer group\u2019s Net-zero initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was through our meetings with MP Kody Blois that the project became known to the province and municipality,\u201d said Watson. \u201cWe\u2019ve met with all levels, and they\u2019ve all been incredibly supportive. It\u2019s going to make a huge difference to our facility and operating cost<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll be able to reduce our costs and invest that back into our facilities for recreation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Walton Shore, the fire department\u2019s community hall is the focal point of the Walton community, a venue for pancake breakfasts and other community events. The investment will make improvements to the kitchen and other areas to ensure the hall is open to all to use and enjoy for years to come.<br \/><br \/>The hall is located on the shoreline and the rising sea level has caused flooding. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Premier Rankin said the volunteer fire department is receiving $37,532 for drainage system and community hall improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hants North Development Association received $213,756 investment towards trail development at Findley Park in North Noel Road. No one from the association was in Lantz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Municipality of East Hants Warden Eleanor Roulston thanked the province for the investment into the projects.
