(Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> Brian Wong said he\u2019s humbled voters in Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank put their faith in him and the PC Party under the guidance of leader Tim Houston on election day Aug. 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wong defeated Liberal Marni Tuttle 3,938 votes to 3,546 votes. NDP\u2019s Christina McCarron was third with 1,581 votes, while Anthony Edmonds of the Green Party had 617 votes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Atlantica Party\u2019s Shawn Whitford finished last with 71 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wong, a school principal\u2014well former now\u2014said he appreciated the efforts of all the other candidates in what he termed a tough election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was short, and it went fast, but I really believe that people believed in Tim Houston\u2019s message, what we\u2019re putting forward for healthcare, what we\u2019re putting forward for seniors,\u201d said Wong in a video interview shortly after being declared the winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/IMG_3569-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23069\" width=\"396\" height=\"264\"\/><figcaption>Brian Wong, the newly-elected PC MLA for Waverley Fall River Beaver Bank shares a smile at a comment from one of his supporters. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He said he got to talk to a lot of people in the community during the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the election results came in relief was evident on his face, while his supporters were exuberant at his campaign headquarters above Subway in Fall River on this night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m exhausted right now,\u201d said Wong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wong said he\u2019s really looking forward to working with everyone in the riding for the betterment of each community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to moving things forward,\u201d he said. \u201cI had a lot of great conversations with people in Beaver Bank, Wellington, in Grand Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI just want to start working on things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;95&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;7&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The close result told Wong that there was still plenty of indecision among voters. Overall, 56.55 per cent of eligible voters in the riding (9,753 voted of 17, 272 registered voters) cast a ballot. There were 13 rejected votes and one declined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRegardless of what you voted, I\u2019m going to work for you,\u201d said Wong. \u201cThat\u2019s what I\u2019ve done my whole career.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said when Tuttle called to congratulate him, they spoke about how he can help groups and organizations that Tuttle is involved with, showing the respect the two have even on election night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Video interview\/election night speech with PC MLA-elect Brian Wong.<\/strong> <em><strong>Video edited by: Dagley Media<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Interview with Waverley Fall River Beaver Bank PC MLA-elect Brian Wong\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jRYdI2Szh2s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wong told his supporters he will work his ass off for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI do hope you will hold me accountable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tuttle expressed her disappointment at the outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m disappointed that I&#8217;m not going to have the opportunity to be the MLA, but I&#8217;m really pleased at the campaign that we ran,\u201d said Tuttle. \u201cI&#8217;m pleased with the camaraderie that was between the candidates and the respectfulness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn the campaign, I can&#8217;t believe the energy. There was a lot of effort from friends, family and Liberal supporters brought to the campaign. I&#8217;m so impressed with the support that I received from the liberal team.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;133&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Liberal platform didn\u2019t seem to resonate with not only those in the Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank riding but across N.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She feels the Liberal platform was the only one that looked at the province\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think the platform was a sound one and it didn&#8217;t make promises that couldn&#8217;t be kept,\u201d Tuttle said. \u201cPromises are easy. Governing is hard, and this was the only platform that looked at governing over more than the next four years, and that wasn&#8217;t as easy to communicate through the media and at the doorstep.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She thanked the other candidates for running respectful campaigns and congratulated each for putting their names forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked if she would consider running again in the future?
