{"id":23714,"date":"2021-09-22T01:27:20","date_gmt":"2021-09-22T04:27:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=23714"},"modified":"2021-09-22T01:27:20","modified_gmt":"2021-09-22T04:27:20","slug":"samson-ready-to-continue-to-work-hard-for-spc-after-re-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=23714","title":{"rendered":"Samson ready to continue to work hard for SPC after re-election"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;93&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WAVERLEY:<\/strong> If the past five weeks of campaigning was just a warmup for the hard work ahead, Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook Liberal MP-elect Darrell Samson said he\u2019s ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samson earned re-election in the federal election on Sept. 20 after 18,839 residents in the vast and wide riding voted to return him to Ottawa, ahead of Conservative Angela Conrad with 12,047 votes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third term MP, who calls Fall River home, entered the Waverley Legion buoyed by his wife Faye and children to a small, but appreciative crowd who gave him a large applause. He greeted friends, campaign workers, including Duncan Robertson and Marni Tuttle, who ran for the provincial MLA spot in Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank, and Sandra Carr among some.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m ecstatic,\u201d said Samson in a sit-down interview after he spoke to the crowd. \u201cThere\u2019s no question about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWinning three times is not easy, especially when you\u2019re in the governing party. If you\u2019re not in the governing party it\u2019s one thing, but when you\u2019re in the governing party you can, to some extent, be on the defence. You\u2019re being challenged on some of the decisions you took.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_7026-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23718\"\/><figcaption>Darrell Samson gives his &#8220;right hand man&#8221; Duncan Robertson a victorious bear hug at his victory party at the Waverley Legion. 9Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said it\u2019s not easy to put ones self out there as the candidates did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have to say throughout the campaign I felt more and more confident as we were winding down,\u201d said Samson. \u201cThat\u2019s a great feeling because you want momentum on your side.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Liberal Darrell Samson re-elected in Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yrBRWMNJoRQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samson felt people in the riding appreciated the hard work they did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey recognized what I did here, and it\u2019s a privilege to represent the riding,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s very touching to get a third term. It\u2019s unbelievable feeling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m proud to be the voice for Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook in Ottawa.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chisholm was obviously disappointed with the outcome, but proud of how she ran her campaign. She finished third with 12,011 votes, once all votes were compiled and reported only after our story was published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlthough it wasn&#8217;t the result we had hoped for, I am so proud of the work we put in to make meaningful change in our community,\u201d she said in a Facebook post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;7&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She thanked her dedicated team for their efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThank you to each volunteer that donated time and each supporter that checked off my name on their ballot and supported this campaign,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just because she didn\u2019t win doesn\u2019t mean she\u2019s going away, and the government will know that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe fight for pharmacare, dentalcare, Indigenous rights, affordable housing and real climate action isn&#8217;t over,\u201d said Chisholm. \u201cI will be alongside you as we continue to push for change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_7036-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23719\"\/><figcaption>Darrell Samson hugs Marni Tuttle at his victory party. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;123&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samson was asked so with a third term coming up, will he re-offer again when another federal election is held (four years if they go the full time, or sooner)?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI love politics. I love my family. My family has been behind me from day one,\u201d said Samson. \u201cIt\u2019s not easy to be a representative, but it\u2019s important. I feel I am doing something very important to support Canadians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs long as I feel that I\u2019m contributing to making life better for individuals, families, and communities, I\u2019ll stay.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The People Party\u2019s Earl Gosse was fourth at 1,7776 votes, while it seemed that turmoil with the national Green Party impacted Anthony Edmonds who garnered just 933 votes. That\u2019s down almost 5,000 votes from 2019 when he had 5,743 ballots cast in his name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall 45,858 of 72,197 eligible voters\u2014or just above 61 per cent\u2014cast a ballot on Sept. 20.
