They previously only had one set for the youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trying out the new stones during one of the free Thursday curling sessions for youth at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz, were participants of the East Hants Youth Links program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coordinator Danielle Shreenan said Youth Links programming is all about getting youth out to try something new especially for kids that don&#8217;t have the opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re learning something new and maybe finding a new passion,\u201d said Shreenan. \u201cThe fact that it&#8217;s free gives so many kids a chance to try.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Youth try out curling in Lantz\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zdNBDqE_cos?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/IMG_0123-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25209\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"\/><figcaption>Abby Pickrem throws a curling stone. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;2&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;147&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The free curling sessions started out with about eight youth but has steadily grown to have more than 30 now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said she was thrilled the two community organizations could partner on this endeavour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was so excited to be able to partner up with the Curling Association to bring this, because our whole goal is to get the youth out to try something new that possibly don&#8217;t get a chance to,\u201d she said. \u201cThere&#8217;s a lot of availability for sports that are contact and they&#8217;re not for everybody. So, this is a sport for other people to try.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harold MacNeil, president of the Curling Association, said it gives the youth something to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur hope is to gain enough interest so that the curling association can start a-league and that we can have a youth program here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/IMG_0090-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25206\"\/><figcaption>(Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/IMG_0112-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25208\"\/><figcaption>(Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>MacNeil said the program is made for all youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a non-contact sport and a lot of kids don&#8217;t like contact sports,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s one where all ages, all abilities can play.
