\u201cI was so happy,\u201d she said. \u201cI never expected that I’d win. I mean, I love writing and it’s something I’ve always done for fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think when I won it gave me more confidence in my writing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her friends were proud of her accomplishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey were very happy for me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monette said she wants to become an author when she\u2019s an \u201cadult.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She found out about the contest from her mom, who told her sister. She took part so of course Kayleigh said she had to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI thought well, I would do it as well,\u201d said Monette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When asked if this means she has bragging rights in the home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDefinitely,\u201d said Monette as she smiled and giggled a tad bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another winner in the same 10-12-year-old category was Penelope Lawy of Fall River. The Laker News was unaware of her winning until we did a tweet on Nov. 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
