However, that didn\u2019t stop the Wellington girl from entering a recent contest held by Halifax Regional Public Libraries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monette enjoys writing, and just thought participating in the contest was something she should do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI thought it would be nice to try something new,\u201d said Monette. \u201cI thought it was actually pretty fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Georges P. Vanier Junior High student summarized what she wrote about. (Note: it scared this reporter, just hearing what it was).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wrote about a monster that lives in mirrors, and it was kind of a story behind the seven years of bad luck if they break,\u201d she said with a proud smile. \u201cIt was like if you break a mirror the creature escapes and is about three girls. They were moving and they broke the mirror, and the monster came out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;7&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The library has held the Ghost Story Writing contest for more than 30 years in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helencreighton.org\/activities\/story-contest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Helen Creighton Folklore Society.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said she was thrilled to learn she was one of three winners in her age group of 10-12-year-olds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was so happy,\u201d she said. \u201cI never expected that I&#8217;d win. I mean, I love writing and it&#8217;s something I&#8217;ve always done for fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think when I won it gave me more confidence in my writing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her friends were proud of her accomplishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey were very happy for me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;123&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monette said she wants to become an author when she\u2019s an \u201cadult.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She found out about the contest from her mom, who told her sister. She took part so of course Kayleigh said she had to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI thought well, I would do it as well,\u201d said Monette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked if this means she has bragging rights in the home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDefinitely,\u201d said Monette as she smiled and giggled a tad bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another winner in the same 10-12-year-old category was Penelope Lawy of Fall River.
