ELMSDALE:<\/strong> The future of traffic flow on Hwy 214 and Hwy 2 in Elmsdale involves some form of roundabout approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With the Lantz Interchange now complete, the Department of Public Works will turn their attention to upgrading Highway 214\u2014in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Don Maillet, District Director with Public Works, confirmed work will begin to fix Hwy 214 in Elmsdale from the Hwy 2 lights up to the off ramp off Hwy 102 by the Superstore. However, it won\u2019t be right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Following the province\u2019s announcement of its five-year highway plan recently, there was time for media to ask questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the third time around, The Laker News\u2014after we asked two earlier questions–was able to inquire about what the plan was for Hwy 214 to help ease the traffic bottleneck that occurs daily, especially during the morning and evening rush hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”78″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”2″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n He spoke of improvements they had made in recent weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCurrently, at some point that interchange is going to have to be upgraded, not right now, in the future\u201d said Maillet. \u201cAt that point what we will do is look at alternate ways of funneling that traffic through that interchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt will probably encompass Hwy 2 (by the lights) at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maillet said it won\u2019t be happening any time soon, but rather down the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhen it does come time to replace it and upgrade the interchange,\u201d he said, \u201cwe will be looking at some type of roundabout type of approach around that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBut right now, it\u2019s not even in the planning stages.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”155″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”84″]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [adrotate banner=”111″] [adrotate banner=”156″] ELMSDALE: The future of traffic flow on Hwy 214 and Hwy 2 in Elmsdale involves some form of roundabout approaches.
